Hello all,

It seems that theres something wrong with my computer. The browsing is veeery slow and many times i get "Server not found" be displayed and i have to reload the page to load correctly. Then it may work for a few minutes and then again slow and unstable.

I have tried connecting through vpn and everything loads fine and fast.

I have tried resetting network connection, reinstall ethernet drivers, installed new ethernet card, reset socks, reset dns cache, reset host file, reset arp entries, manually put google's dns e.t.c but no luck. Also cleared browser cache, used different browsers

I of course scanned for malware e.t.c, i believe thats not the issue.

Any help? Im out of ideas...:'(

what did you use to scan for malware? your symptoms sound like botnet or redirected search.

MalwareBytes + Bitdefender. Is there a specific program you would suggest for botnet or rootkit scan?

Running traceroute might help. See what point the connection is failing at. I find it interesting that a vpn connection works fine. Says to me that your isp is ok with that one connection, but starts falling out as you attempt more and more connections (if you aren't going through the vpn).

Also, whenever I have called my cable company for an outage, the first thing their automated system does is check their connection to my modem. So you may want to try that when the connection goes south.

If indeed the Cisco device is a Modem only and Not Modem Router it is a very Big Mistake in these days and age to Run even a single Computer using External IP (rather then private IP behind a Router) with no external protection.

There can be a lot of Clever Junk that what ever Malware scanner you are using is Not detected.

This.

If it's only a modem, not modem router, go to nearest electronics store and buy any home router and put your PC behind it. Even the cheapest one is way better than nothing.

Without a router, your PC is under attack every second.

I have connected a router behind my cisco modem and connected my pc on it and it works fine...

thanks for your input.

I have a question though. I dont know if this scenario is valid. If i have a malware/botnet/rootkit that was slowing me down (for whatever reason), could it be that the new router is blocking all the ports and thats why i dont have problems? Because the modem does not have option to block all incoming ports so the malware could be running through.

If this is valid, what would you suggest to do in order to make sure (at least at some percentage) that my pc is clean?

Also, is there anyway i can find out for sure what exactly was the problem?

Thanks again for your time and valuable input.

edit: meh, was ok but now its doing the same shit again...

Call your ISP and ask them to test your line first.

Also make sure your Firefox, Chrome, IE does not have plugin (like proxies) that will redirect your traffic.

do you have a clean boot cd? try malwarebytes again with clean boot and you have a better chance to clean it up.
