Messing with phone scammers, looks I've been ID'd

Sure, but what business do they have calling you/me? If a stranger with an Indian accent calls me, am I not wasting my time asking them what they have on their mind? Or practically anyone?

I was getting for a while after I brought my first real cell phone and almost fell for one. Fortunately for me I don't know where the nearest Western Union is and the Grant Money didn't sound right.

Another one was an Educational Grant offer from out of no where. I didn't for that one, because if I want to go back to school I'll ask the school what is available for me instead.

Every so often I'll get a medical spam call telling me they have an order for my diabetic pain medication. Spammer always request my Medicare number....

I don't understand what the actual technological barriers are that are preventing carriers from eradicating spoofing. Does anyone know? I have two friends who have actually gotten scam calls from themselves!

Anyway, I want to balance our these complaints with two personal observations. First, I've noticed a definite uptick in the quality of phone CSRs, with many being obviously educated and well trained Americans. Secondly, the general quality of Philippine CSRs is really high . . . both their command of English and their first class interpersonal skills -- patience and exquisite manners, et al.

When I was a teen, I was interviewed for what turned out to be a telesales job and the pay was 99% performance-based. I bet these scammers are employed in a similar fashion, so I'd bet that time-wasting is a sound strategy (if one's own time is wasteable).

When one starts a thread to rant about callers wasting his time and one then gloats about how smart he is by actively engaging in a strategy that wastes even more of his time then one is an idiot.

I have an even better policy ... never ever answer a call from a number not in my contacts or check my voicemail. If you want to actually speak with me you'll need to email or text explaining why and maybe I'll call you.

There's this guy "kitboga" (I think that's the name) on YouTube that baits those scumbag scammers. I think he's got some voice filter that allows him to sound like women or old people. But his vids can kinda be confusing sometimes, like I didn't understand the premise or exactly what was going on or why he was even talking to scammers (did they just randomly call him?). I've only watched a few of his videos but every one was with Indian scammer people. What the hell's going on over there? These frickin people are total scum, especially to prey on elderly people. The thought of those pieces of shit screwing with my parents, or anyone's elderly relatives, just pisses me off.

Yep. Enable Do Not Disturb, go to Exceptions, then select Calls from Contacts Only. I only put on DND at night when sleeping but you could just run it all day if you wanted to do what you listed. Then of course block numbers that call and don't leave voicemails (if you want), or only block if they leave voicemails that are scammy. The blocking you gotta do yourself though but it's just a couple clicks.

I don't do that. I'm talking about getting a call when I have NOT requested anything.

I had been getting multiple calls a week to extend the warranty of my truck. After so many calls I finally decided to screw with these people.

I answered their call and when they asked if I was interested I said “I’ve been wanting to extend my warranty for quite sometime!”. So after gathering my info on the truck they got to the mileage. When asked I replied “400000 miles”.

The caller quickly told me they couldn’t help me. So I faked getting extremely upset that they couldn’t sell me a product they called me to solicit. Lol

because of the other recent thread, somewhere, I forget--I've been watching IRLrosie videos as well. That lady is damn talented (voice actor). the anti-scammer youtubers also do a lot of collaboration work--her + kitboga are hilarious.

There's an app, I forget what it's called, where she has contributed a bunch of files and I guess all of those people have, that will directly route spam calls to one of their pre-recorded voice files, and there are some examples of how they've been keeping scammers on the line for up 10 minutes or so, talking to the voicemail. lol.

It also records each of the calls so that you can play them back.

With iOS 13 this is a non issue. Silence calls that aren't contacts is great. Then block the numbers and they're gone forever. If it's a legitimate call, they can still leave a VM. 98% of robocalls don't leave VMs.

Just found this myself and immediately turned it on. Best feature ever.
