Anyone play the demo yet? I thought game play was really fun. It took me a while to learn how to parry correctly but once I did it was great. I was really reluctant to automatically pre order this game as I did previous ones since I'm a huge Metal Gear Solid fan, and this being made by an entirely different studio, scared me a bit but game play was great and still had a Metal Gear Solid feel to it even though it's action oriented. Graphics look very Metal Gear-ish as do the boss intros. The codes are similar as well. I'm definitely going to pre order this. Kojima being the producer Helped keep the MGS feel to this. I'm hoping for another crazy story as we're used to.

I really liked it but could have used a block button or a dodge button. Something other than just timing your attack and pressing toward an enemy. Also I didn't think they explained finisher moves very well. There's just some japanese character that appears and it never tells you to press the focus button and hack away.

I would have preferred a bit more ninja stealth stuff. Like more ways to sneak up and avoid fighting but still have the action when you did fight.

Did you play it on PS3 or Xbox 360? Apparently the Xbox 360 one has a better framerate, but vsync is not used and you might get screen tearing. However, the PS3 demo is twice the size because it uses uncompressed FMVs and when released will utilize the Blu-Ray capability for uncompressed FMV where as the Xbox version has compressed and lower resolution FMV scenes. The gameplay is identical aside from the framerates I mentioned.

Some people on other forums said the PS3 one looked more clean and had better textures. I've played both and was hard pressed to find any differences. I have no way to put them side by side either.

I thought it was pretty cool. I would have also liked a dodge or block button as well but I guess they want to push us into pure offense territory with parries instead of blocks/dodges. I died a bunch of times though on normal mode because of this. I got used it to later and learned how to utilize counterattacks with Blade mode.

I played it on the PS3 but I have a 360 as well. I just played it on Xbox right now and they seemed the same to me. I just might pick it up on the PS3 since it was developed for it first and killed the 360 version in Japan but I didn't notice a difference at all.

I tried going up against a wall to try and sneak and yea nothing, I guess they're really making this pure action.

I played the demo the other day on the 360, and the first thing that I noticed was... you can really screw yourself over. I got onto the beach, and what was the first thing I did? "Oh hey, those are the stairs that I probably have to ascend..." *CHOP CHOP CHOP* Unfortunately, cutting up the stairs meant that I had to restart the level as there was no way to progress.

Although, my overall impression was... I'd rather go back and play Shinobi on the PS2 if I want a good slash-em-up game.

Actually there is...press the ninja run button and move toward the wall. Notice you can climb up it.

Also you are probably missing the depth of the fighting in the demo. Did you use the sword mode a lot? That's how you recharge health. Also timing your attacks in order to parry and counter is important. Also, doing the special attacks and following it up with sword mode and shashing is going to be a key component as well.

Oh and the demo didn't include it, but remember the "Doktor" talking about getting the hands of enemies? That's super important in the full game. Use sword mode and cut off the hand (left hand specifically) and you can upgrade that way. If you don't use sword mode and get the hands, you won't power up.

It's not for everyone, no block or dodge but the battle is intuitive enough with just the right amount of depth to be a really fun game IMO.
