i'm surprised no one here has expressed dismay at system of a down's toxicity being ranked #2. There are usually plenty of haters

FWIW, I think its a fucking great album.

SOAD is quite entertaining, and I like them, but they're NOT metal

I guess I’m more into 80’s/90’s metal cause I think a good chunk of the list blows. I tried to listen to Machine Head's stuff and thought it was just noise. Shitty noise...

I’m not sure why there’s so much Death Magnetic hate. It’s a solid album (albeit heavily compressed). System of a Down is….ok; not sure why there is so much love for them. Lamb of God is very overrated. I saw them during Gigantour and thought they really sucked.

I’m glad to see Opeth has 2 albums on the list.

Arch Enemy - I thought Rise of the Tyrant was much better than Anthems of Rebellion.

Dream Theater – Black Clouds and Silver Linings is way better than Systematic Chaos.

Putting the metal or hard rock debate aside, I would’ve preferred to see some Anvil, Amon Amarth, Fozzy, Iced Earth or King’s X on there. Hell, Dragonforce’s Inhuman Rampage is better than half the shit on the list…

Such as? This is for 2000-2010.

I would have taken off Airbourne and NIN and put both of Protest the Hero's albums on there. Kezia is easily top 20. I also wouldn't have rated Death Magnetic that high but see no problem paying homage to the pioneers.

AOJB by KSE is easily their best album for starters. Iowa was a way better album for Slipknot. In Flames - Clayman or Colony both far superior.

I like modern metal and that list blows. At least half of those bands aren't even metal and of the ones that are they picked fucking terrible albums.

For example, why would they pick "Come Clarity" from In Flames when "Clayman" was also released in this decade and is about 1000000x better :hmm: Probably because half of "Come Clarity" is whiny metalcore like a bunch of the other albums on the list.

Glad to see Nightwish and Lacuna Coil even show up on that list. But seriously some of those albums in the top 10 don't belong there. Death Magnetic was alright but after listening to it 50 times I have 0 interest in hearing it again unlike Once and Comalies that I listen to almost every day...

In flames is depressing ....
I used to LOVE them in the late 90s (held them with very very high reguard, thought they were on the same level as At the Gates and Opeth)... was so psyched to see them come to Milwaukee for their first US show... loved seeing them in small venues...
Whoracle was by far their best album IMO.... Jester Race was awesome, Lunar Strain awesome as well. Then, Colony came out. It was different, it had good songs, but nothing stood out as fantastic.. yea, new lineup in the band, so things are gonna be different ... but It just didn't seem to have that same aggression that their earlier albums had. It still kicked ass, but seemed to be missing something. Clayman came out, and it confirmed things for me, the music got simpler IMO, the guitars less exciting... they were losing their edge. Still a good CD, but IMO a big step down from Colony.

Reroute came out, and I honestly didn't enjoy that album at all, whole damn thing sounded like rapcore or metalcore or whatever the hell they call it ... And I haven't listened to anything new from them since ... they just don't interest me any more ... meh

I'd pick Unleashed Memories over Comalies ... but both are great albums indeed ...

WTF, list is full of fail.

Blackwater Park should be way higher, as should Leviathan, and From Mars to Sirius. I mean, really, HIM and Metallica are in the top 10? D:

I swear some of those bands must be on there due to their body of work, not the particular album. :hmm:

KT

Edit: also, Ghost Reveries is way better than Watershed.

*shrugs* I seem to feel the exact opposite. I thought Lunar Strain was a terrible album, and just sounded like noise. Clayman is probably my overall favorite. I didn't care for Colony much, though I liked Reroute to Remain and Sountrack to your Escape quite a bit. Whoracle and Jester Race are pretty good as well. Come Clarity had a few really good tracks that were dragged down by a lot of shitty ones.

Nah it isn't the usual tirade directed soley at them that we are used to here haha

:hmm:
Start a thread with something like "SOAD's Toxicity - 2nd best metal album of the decade" as the title.

I think you'd be satisfied with the tirade level.

/grats to Rob Flynn selling out less than prior.

Fixed. Machine Head's entire existence is just Robb Flynn selling out to the groove/post-thrash scene after Bay Area 80's thrash (see: Vio-lence) stopped selling.

Arcturus' The Sham Mirrors would receive my vote for best 200x metal album.

I thought the list was pretty good. Everyone complaining about Death Magnetic being near the top needs to STFU. There are some damn good songs on the album, even if it's not a cover to cover classic.

Edit: Though I have to admit, SOAD at #2 is fairly annoying. I wasn't paying much attention to the actual ranks though, just the list overall.

"Some damn good songs" does not a #6 album of the decade make.

Let's be honest, the ONLY reason they are listed as No. 1 has to be because they did a cover of the greatest Iron Maiden song and one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever - Hallowed Be Thy Name

Oh, and it didn't hurt that they did a cover of Battery, as well.

And unlike others, I think Death Magnetic was 100's of times better than what Metallica has put out in the previous 10 years and was a pretty good album.

edit: Pretty sad they didn't include Shadows Fall's The Art of Balance. That album kicked serious ass.

Am I the only one that thinks SOAD very much deserves to be on this list? They aren't your typical "metal", especially that album, but they do have some pretty heavy stuff. They're creative and willing to take chances, which is more than 99% of metal bands can say nowadays.

I would have liked to see some Disturbed, Trivium, KSE, or Katatonia on the list.

Half the shit on that list isn't even metal. I can't believe how low Slayer is on that list.

I listened to 2 and a half minutes of the first song (from your link). I lolled at how abysmal it is. I cried for the horrible state music is in, and cried more for the ever-declining artistic (autistic) taste of society.

Lawl, try listening to Aesthetics of Hate and tell me that sucks. Listening to 3% of something and saying it sucks is like eating a piece of crust of the best pizza. Expand.Your.Horizons.

Machine-gun electric drums, check. Unintelligible growling vocals, check. Devoid of melody, check. In short, my condolences to anyone who would consider this much of a form of music at all, you have grown up listening to a ton of crap and I feel for you...

Hah, we certainly have some pretty big differences of opinion
I don't like Lunar Strain as much as Whoracle or Jester Race ... but it's probably my 3rd favorite In Flames album. Notable tracks: Behind Space, Upon an Oaken Throne:, In Flames, and Lunar Strain...

I did like Clayman, but I believe they were on the decline since Colonyl. IMO it's a bit generic, and not really memorable album. Also, the vocals are not nearly as rough as they used to be. I liked their vocals in the beginning, raw, and angry, ready to explode.
That said, I will concede that Only For the Weak is a damn catchy song...

Metal fans are such bleeding hearts. Nothing is good enough, no song, no list, no amount of endless growling, demon calling, pastiche making, mould conforming, head banging, \m/ raising or torrid bullshit that this genre has been pumping out for the last thirty years, to the derision of even its most ardent fans.

With metal, it's cool to hate and you're cool if your obscure preference is never on a list.
