Yesterday Detroit saw it's second highest rainfall in its recorded history. Officially they are saying 4.5" of rain fell in about 2 hours. We are now shoveling out of the mess but almost 30 hours later there are still a number of major freeways closed.

this was from today, that boat is a dive team looking through the cars that are submerged for bodies:

The sign says "Clearance 14 feet 8 inches"

There are some crazy sinkholes that have opened up. Whole interstate service drives are gone.

There was a lane here:

My area was spared, all that I suffered was an overactive sump pump.

said on the news that some of the pumps failed because people stole the copper pipes

that made me chuckle

Yesterday was brutal...I helped my parents with a leak in one of the basement walls but other than that nothing extreme. One of my friends took in 3.5' of water in the basement and is supposed to move out of there on Thursday. The GM Tech Center is flooded so everyone that works there has a few days off.

There were still a bunch of abandoned cars on the road when I headed to the gym this afternoon.

Nothing here at my house in Belleville. Even my backyard didn't flood, which it often does in heavy rain. I think the worst of it missed me. Also my office downtown is fine but 94 was partially closed in Dearborn so I didn't go in. The only person that went in today lives in windsor.

All good in the Novi area and on my commute to Ann Arbor. I've heard and seen several horror stories about friends' basements in Royal Oak though.

heard that too, i think they meant wire - who uses copper pipe to move huge amounts of water?

North Oakland County here. We barely got any rain at all. Overcast and raining a bit off and on that day. It all passed to the South of us evidently. MIL's basement is flooded in Dearborn Heights but it doesn't take much rain for that to happen. My wife was telling me about the State Police having dive teams searching cars for bodies. I don't pay enough attention to local news.

Dearborn area here. Area was hit real hard but luckily my house is in the middle of the block so I was away from the lakes that formed.

We bought this house in Jan so this was a real test of how the basement would hold up. Super small amount of water got in, nothing to even worry about.

While I was getting pictures of my friends houses... wow. At least 2 told me they had 12" of water and I even saw a pic where their washer was floating along the basement.

Doing fine in Bloomfield TWP. Luckily the farmer who built my house over 100 years ago was smart enough to put it on a high point of all the surrounding land...

My wife's car turned into a boat for a couple hours Monday night in Warren on her way home from work. Still waiting on a tow. At least our house stayed dry.

No problem where I live in Ann Arbor nor along my commute to Wixom for work. Some people were forced to turn around or take alternate routes to work though, but I'm not sure where they're coming from.

Fortunately I've only had to deal with some backups along I-94 and I-75 from Belleville to Detroit.

My typical commute route doesn't include the portion of I-94 that is closed.

Some of my friends from downriver are now cleaning out their basements, replacing furnaces, water heaters, etc.

Wow, what you guys got was just a light shower compared to what Islip and other parts of Long Island got last night - over a foot of rain.

An inch of water is equivalent to what, a foot of snow? Obviously that much water falling that quickly is destructive in its own way, but it does illustrate the volume.

That's insane.
