Like Mexico City.I love mexico city. Used to go quite often for work. Yes, generally the city has high crime rate, however if you don't act flashy, go to bad areas, or stand out, you won't have any issues. If you don't know someone there who can provide some guidance, I'd recommend staying in la reforma at one of the nicer hotels and sticking to more upscale restaurants. The pyramids are relatively easy to get to using a car service or various tour services. I do not recommend renting a car.
That looks like the area i was looking at to stay, close to the museum...some of the taco stands close look amazingI love mexico city. Used to go quite often for work. I've been there more than a handful of times and have never felt unsafe, even when walking along the reforma or in neighborhoods outside the reforma. Would I walk around in the slum areas or alone on streets that weren't crowded during the night? No, but that's just common sense. I wouldn't do that shit in parts of Chicago, LA, or Houston either!Like Mexico City.
But you're safe from the corona.
I've been to Mexico several times, but never Mexico City. Our company requires you to have a security escort for Mexico City. Personally I have no desire to go there. So many better places to travel to.

Mexico City – Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution
Exercise increased caution due to crime.
Both violent and non-violent crime occur throughout Mexico City. Use additional caution, particularly at night, outside of the frequented tourist areas where police and security patrol more routinely. Petty crime occurs frequently in both tourist areas and non-tourist areas.
