I saw a Sky live and in-person this weekend and was not terribly impressed. The Saturn Batmobile.

solstice -

Engine Type Gas 4-cyl

Displacement 2.4L/- TBD -

SAE Net Horsepower @ RPM 177 @ 6600

SAE Net Torque @ RPM 166 @ 4800

I don't understand what you are getting at. A Vette is 2.5x as expensive as the Solstice. The 350Z and S2000 are both about 75% more expensive. The Miata is the only direct competitor.

And the Solstice is 200 pounds lighter, puts out more power and more torque at lower, more useable RPM's than the Miata.

that was just a general statement, not comparing price/performance or anything else.

and the specs were for someone who wanted them.

Wrong

Curb weights

2006 Solstice - 2860
2006 Miata - 2474

Older Miata's are a around 2200lbs.

Performance

2006 Solstice - 177 @ 6600 rpm 166 @ 4800 rpm
2006 Miata - 170 hp @ 6500 rpm 140 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm

not a big difference really. the miata should be faster because of the weight difference.

I'm getting different HP numbers for the solstice depending on the website. One said 170hp @ 6400 rpm

Yeh I just went back and looked. The miata had a gross weight of around 3050 pounds. The curb weight of the Solstice was 2860. They didn't have gross weight there. I glanced at it too quick.

The next generation of Opel Speedster's are set to share the same platform as the Sky/Solstice.....current speedster shares it with the Elise.

Then you'd better stick with the RX-8

BTW - Nice job GM...they make 3 cars I'd love to own - if I didn't have to pay for them.
- Z06 Vette
- Solstice/Sky
- GTO

1. The Wankel rotary is NOT the "best F*in engine alive". Not by far. It is terribly inefficient, has poor torque curve figures, increased emissions, and reduced reliability.

2. The Miata does NOT have a Wankel rotary in it. It uses a traditional 4-cycle reciprocating piston inline-4.

New Miata: =D
Old Miata: =)
Sky: =)
Solstice: =/

The solstice doesn't have the Miata's lean, sleek look.

The October 2005 issue of R&T has reviews of both cars:

Compared with the sports car's new rival, Pontiac's Solstice, the Miata is 0.4 sec. quicker to 60 and beats it in the slalom, while the American is slightly better around the skidpad. Drive them back-to-back and you'd likely find the Mazda a bit crisper in handling, the Pontiac somewhat smoother in ride, but the duo walking both sides of the ride/handling compromise with ease.

2006 Pontiac Solstice
0-60: 7.4 sec.
1/4 Mile: 15.8 sec.
Top Speed: est. 120
Skidpad: 0.88g
Slalom: 67.0 mph
0-80: 13.2 sec.
Braking from 60: 114 ft.
R&T Fuel Economy: 21.0 mpg
Balance: Moderate understeer
Base-price: $19,420. (Price as Tested: $23,095)

2006 Mazda Miata
0-60: 7.0 sec.
1/4 Mile: 15.4 sec.
Top Speed: est. 130
Skidpad: 0.86g
Slalom: 67.7 mph
0-80: 12.4 sec.
Braking from 60: 112 ft.
R&T Fuel Ecomomy: 23.0 mpg
Balance: moderate understeer
Base-price: $20,435. (Price as Tested: $27,610)
