I don't know what he said, but Bowling for Columbine was a terrible movie. I couldn't even finish watching it. He was incredibly selective in what he showed to make sure that it fit his point of view. He didn't give anywhere close to the whole story. I could make a documentary just like his where I portray Dogs as vicious animals and tell people they are fools for allowing them into their homes. All I have to do is interview people who have been bitten by dogs and find towns where there is an unusually large number of dog related injuries. Then I will tease them for awhile at a shelter and record them barking at me wanting to tear my head off. That's what he did in Bowling for Columbine

not only that, you must lie about things and manipulate the turth to fit your documentary.

To be honest, I had never heard of this fat jackass until now. When they said Michael Moore, I thought they were talking about the boxer. No wonder he needed to use the Oscars to get publicity. That's ok though, he commited his own career suicide.

In Hollywood there is no such thing as bad publicity. Most of the people in show business are egomaniacs and media hogs. They and their agents are always trying to promote themselves in order to advance their careers.

As for Michael Moore's comments...he's entitled to his opinions, but I don't think that an award presentation is the proper forum for political criticism. I was surprised that the other nominees were foolish enough to be manipulated into coming onstage to be part of the immature and disrespectful outburst.

I have mixed feelings about what was said, but you can be sure that many people are going to be talking about this incident, and many people will be anxious to check out "Bowling for Columbine", just to see what the fuss is all about. This is what Michael Moore wants people to do. He's the man.

What do you mean? The guy got an award for an outstanding documentary when the documentary was terrible. You should pay attention to the lefties. They really get worked up over stuff.

I think we should use Michael Moore as a meat shield the next time something blows up in this country. Dennis Miller said it best:

"If you believe in a "vast right-wing conspiracy," but you do not believe in the danger that Hussein poses, quit hanging out with the Dell computer dude."

i read responses from all sides. the right-wingers provide a counterpart to the lefty posts (and vice-versa).

IMHO, though, it just doesn't seem reasonable that moore's comments (or his documentaries) should elicit dozens of aggrieved posts, in various threads, unless you're actually afraid of his power to influence opinion.

Very apt analogy, and dogs would be particularly easy to demonize, too. Don't forget to exploit human suffering for your dog-hating film, by showing some autopsy photos of badly mauled children. Oh, and toss in an interview or two of children with very visible and severe scars on their body. A few tears, crying mothers, an animated cartoon depicting the 'history' of fighting dogs, you're in the 'documentary' business!

MM can say whatever he wants...but to do it in such a venue which will be seen immediately by our soldiers in the Gulf is just unforgivable.

Nor should his commentary or the subsequent aggrieved posts elicit responses that imply "fear" is what has everyone in an uproar. Is it that you are in fear of being somehow affected by your own interest in posting in a thread which you already think is preposterous? You know, you don't have to step into the water if the temperature is not to your liking.

It's been stated before: All nominee's were requested to refrain from making reference to the war. Anyone who supported a sentiment or statement regarding the war was encouraged to wear a ribbon or broach which indicated their position. The Academy Awards is not about grandstanding and providing a podium for personal political interest.

The initial praise which turned to boo's is representative of even Hollywood not appreciating the gesture which Michael Moore expressed and took too far, free speech or not. Further, he's still hung up on what he calls a "Fictitious President". Perhaps his "Fictitious" Oscar really wouldn't dent his skull if he's bashed in the head with it.

heh, talk in grandious terms of looking at both sides, all the issues and accusing someone for being afraid - you do realize this is a topic of interest regarding Michael Moore, right!? *cough* Don't tell me you think he's not one sided about anything...

From the dictionary:

doc·u·men·ta·ry
adj.

Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.

Hmmm....

from the AMPAS:
1. An eligible documentary film is defined as a theatrically released non-fiction motion picture dealing creatively with cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subjects. It may be photographed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial re-enactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, as long as the emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.

Was BfC's emphasis on fact or on shock value?

This is the crap I'm so tired of. Anyone who disagrees with the war/foreign policy or even dislikes the President is labelled communist, anti-American? It's this unthinking, mass-patriotism that makes dissent and disagreement less available, which, in turn, makes us LESS AMERICAN.

Where in that cartoon does it say "communist, anti-American"?

I'll answer , it doesn't. Why should our right to disagree with Moore be stifled by lies such as what you just said?

"Marxist" on his cap, "spit on America" ...

You over estimate the Oscar audience.

See: Roman Polanski

Oh please. Our soldiers in the Gulf are perfectly aware of the division over this war. Moore said nothing directly lambasting the troops.

Hmm, sounds a lot like the crap we've been seeing lately on FOX News..."protestors spit on American flag" <cut to interview of serviceman>, "protestors hate America" <cut to interview of cop who was beaten up by Seattle protestor-hippie>. Learn to make your OWN JUDGEMENTS people, EVERYTHING you see is tainted with its creators' biases.
