Michelle Obama Involved in Racism: "I Was Asked to Take Something off the Shelf"

Why does racism exist in America today? That isn't the real question to ask, because racism is everywhere - it is rather a matter of to what degree racism is at. Is it at a tolerable level? Or is it at an unreasonable level that resolves to civil disobedience?

I think you can make an easy judgement when the wife of the US President comes out of the woods to make retarded statements such as this:

First lady Michelle Obama said a woman asked her for help getting something off a shelf at Target, describing racial experiences she’s had.

“I think people forget that we’ve lived in the White House for six years,” Michelle Obama told People magazine. “Before that, Barack Obama was a black man that lived on the South Side of Chicago, who had his share of troubles catching cabs.”

She said, “I tell this story – I mean, even as the first lady – during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn’t see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isn’t anything new.”

Seriously? I'm taking a shot in the dark that the average female height is something around 5'5". Michelle Obama whom is 5'11" - was asked to take something off of a store shelf for someone else in the store for good gesture. I've awkwardly had to ask people to do that for me before - and I've been asked to do that for other people as well. I never thought of it as anything more than just helping people out in life. Is that too much to ask?

How narrow minded does it get? This, my friends, is why racism is at the extreme levels in America. People are actively SEEKING it. They don't want to resolve problems, they want to find problems that don't exist.

er, was she wearing a red shirt?

even as a middle class white male, I've been mistaken for a Target store employee before when making the mistake of going shopping there wearing a red polo shirt.

I was going to add - I often wear a red polo... and it seems that it's a damn coincidence I choose to do so on days I'm going to Target

It never fails, I get the same thing (identified as a Target employee). Never once do I think anything of it regarding race for fucks sake.

But red shirt or not - I have asked random people to help me out. Employee's are often no where to be found, and oh look, there is someone of significant height right next to me I can ask if I get the social balls to ask them.

Obama adviser mistakes 4-star general for waiter

... The incident was first reported on the website Daily Caller, which said Chiarelli, who oversees the Army's programs to help ill and wounded troops from the war, went ahead and got Jarrett a glass of wine. Chiarelli tells CNN that's not exactly what happened.

"As a 'laugh' I poured her a glass of wine -- it was only good fun. Yes, it was an honest mistake and anyone who says otherwise is trying to make it something it was not," Chiarelli said.

Sometime, embarrassing stuff happens. Even in Washington, folks.

I'm filing this under, "What you see depends on what you are looking for..."

Sorry, Shelly, racism not found; that and a total lack of graciousness on your part. Only your liberal hate and a lame excuse for your complete lack of willingness to help someone.

/sits back with popcorn for the usual suspects to run in to defend their queen.

I was in the grocery store the other day when an Indian man wearing a shirt that said Subway (the business next door) approached me with cup-noodle product and said "Veggie? Veggie?"

I realize now that I shouldn't have read the ingredients and informed him that it contained beef broth and a number of other beef products. Instead I should have yelled at him for othering me and dismissed him as an ableist jackass.

SO she is upset that in target, her fame as first lady didn't follow her?

I'm fucking white. Like French Canadian white. When I leave my home office for meetings with customers I'm in nice pants, shoes, and a button down shirt. I can't tell you how many times I'm asked for something if I stop in a CVS or Walgreens on the way home due to people assuming I work there.

She is really upset that her celebrity wasn't recognized and she is attributing that to racism? Given that picture of her in target, she looks just like any other potential target shopper - casually dressed and I'm sure the shades didn't help. I"d be hard pressed to recognize her as first lady too though I'd probably notice the secret service.

Racism not found.

Dumb fucking bitch found.

I saw this story earlier, I'm surprised Michelle used that as a hint at racism. What a peevish thing to complain about and on top of that point out her skin color as the factor that made that person ask her to help them. As if there were an asian, a white, a native american, and her standing there for the person to make the choice based on race. I've had to get things off the shelf for others before and I'm a white male...

If the person said, "get that for me awesome dude" then that would be racist. lol

racism not found, is she saying only black people work at target? sounds like she's pissed about people not recognizing her.

was she wearing a red shirt? Working at target was my first job at 16. customers there most of the time see a red shirt and will start asking questions

Shelly has led, for all intents and purposes, a life of white privilege greater than most white people. Yet she is one of the most humorless, sour, discontented people in the country. She's a prime example of someone who'll never be happy with anything that life has to offer.

When I stop somewhere on the way home and am wearing my photo badge I get asked where certain items are in the store. Even when I'm shopping and not wearing the badge I have been asked to either assist placing a heavier item on a cart or getting something down from the top shelf (specially for older/short women).

It's just a part of life, get over it Michelle.

Someone asking for help reaching something on a shelf is racist? This mentality speaks volumes about where much of the problem lies.

Whiny baby. I have mistaken people as employees before and most of them/all have been white. Never knew a person would find it racist if they are black. When she says such a thing she is instead professing her own racism and her belief that whites constantly are looking down on blacks.

Racists find racism everywhere, it's true.

Wonderfully put, and explains the new face of racism in America. This is the new form of racism we see, typically from leftwing nut jobs who enjoy not being taken to task due to a soft and PC media and culture.

Racism was a tool used to control before, and it remains so today, it just takes a slightly different form today. It's a bit more deceiving today, probably because we aren't looking back on how hateful and stupid it is, but we will and the leaders and folks who engage is this new form of racism are going to be seen for what they are.

Obama once saw someone lock their car doors as he walked by and thought it was a clear example of racism. I've had the same thing happen to me several times during my life and I'm white. Maybe they thought I looked black...that must have been it!

I was deeply affected by these incidents and remain bitter to this day. /s

Is this referring to the 2011 Target trip where she was photographed (with one of the photos in the article)? I'm assuming it is, since she refers to it as that "highly publicized trip." She says she's not highly disguised, but she's wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, and casual clothes, while looking away from people - I would be surprised if someone actually did recognize her. The store manager even said she was incognito.

This Target was in Potomac Yard VA, which has a small black population (7.29%), but not so small that you would assume any you see there is commuting from out of town (would Target hire people who live far away to begin with?) Look at the pictures here:

http://images.christianpost.com/ful...hopping-incognito-at-a-target-in-virginia.jpg

There are two black people behind her that aren't wearing Target uniforms (there's a third black person but I can't tell if she's wearing a uniform or not)

And a third one:

http://images.christianpost.com/ful...hopping-incognito-at-a-target-in-virginia.jpg

So it'd be weird for someone to single her out specifically as a Target employee, especially when it'd mean that they're not familiar with the uniform since what she's wearing is not remotely like one. But she never even says that she was mistaken as an employee, only that she was asked for help.

I've been asked where items were stocked in a store I didn't work at. I didn't realize at the time that I was only asked because of my skin color. I wonder if that gives me street cred?
