It's one of those deals where there is no win win, no happy ending, and no good answers.
Well, not necessarily. In my small world where I am the boss, I will force the less wise around me, those of a different opinion and whom I can control to do what I say regardless of what ever their uninformed opinions may be. When it comes to loved ones, I'm an authoritarian unbound by timidity or politeness. I insist that people live to complain. I recommend you do the same. For what other reason would conservatism have evolved.

They can get paint and fertilizer at Lowe's or Home Depot but not Walmart. I do believe that if they are at Walmart and they get x number (20?) of essentials items they should be able to get non-essential items.
In Michigan, EO 2020-42 differentiates between stores with less than 50,000 sq ft and those with more than 50,000. Stores with with more than 50,000 sq ft have to block off areas that are dedicated to carpet or flooring; furniture; garden centers and plant nurseries; and paint.

I'm going to have to blame nice weather and stupid people. The first weekend in April had really nice weather. Yard waste pickup started on April 6. People packed the big box garden centers to pick up their mulch, fertilizer, and other garden supplies. People noticed.

If there was crappy weather like there is now, people would have eased into getting their spring supplies.

Has anyone ever bought a shirt/jacket/sweater from/representing your favorite news network? I never have but I don't consider myself normal when it comes to non sports, "team" attire.

Dang. Just checked to see if hardware stores are considered essential in Washington state. No luck, but I can go down to the HWY 420 store across the street from the shipyard and get me some good bud. Priorities.

They closed the liquor stores in Pa. So everyone went to West Virginia, then?

So everybody told WV to go pound sand up their ass, and went to Ohio...

Then?

So, now I order out of California at 70% more than what it should be.

Without commerce we have no consent. Without consent we have no rule of law. Without rule of law, we are Afghanistan.

These people believe they are protesting FOR their very lives. To break this chain of events as this nation descends into chaos and anarchy as people, in mass, are losing their ability to pay their bills. Homelessness and destitution are going to skyrocket. Following that, crime and civil unrest also surge. Before long militias and terrorist groups will form around the bare necessities for survival and, in return for food and shelter, people will flock to them.

They are scared to death out there. That is why they are protesting. The shutdown is viewed as a big red "end society" button.

If their fear persists much longer, they will stop using words and start using their guns.

What ever happened to having a proper emergency fund? You shouldn't be able to call yourself an adult if you cant go a few months without a paycheck. I know the majority of Americans are retarded and don't have $400 in the bank though.

How nice of you to weigh in. Explain how these same rules don't apply to our state run corporate welfare programs.

I never said they shouldn't, all these business owners running out for their PPP are a bunch of welfare queens.

As a business owner I expect no one to hold my hand, its all me. I know work can stop at any minute I'm prepared for it they should be too.

Well they're not. So as long as we don't hold the job creators to the same standards as the plebes, then selectively chastising one without the other is whimsical.

Edit: Also, this is on the tail end of a decade long run for corporate america, which the plebes didn't get a very big piece of.

What are you talking about? Every ones sucking the government tit right now. People getting stimulus money plus an extra $600 unemployment no wait bunch of rules waived and businesses are getting forgivable loans and their junk bonds bought up by the fed.

So your saying here that our state run corporate welfare system operates proportionally neutral between corporations and the plebes? LoL....that's a good one. I suggest you take some time to review what the last 10 years have yielded for corporate america versus the working class folks.

Confederate flags and Call of Duty cosplay...I see... It seems the people protesting the order were hard-core right-wing conservatives, taking advantage of an opportunity to thumb their nose at a governor whose party affiliation they find distasteful. There are some in this country who conflate "freedom" and "irresponsibility". They certainly made fools of themselves, snarling traffic. If they want to stage Morons On Parade, fine. Stay in your cars, but keep them moving. Have a fucking parade around the capitol but leave the hospitals alone.

Today's Trump conservatives are used to constantly being pandered and catered to, to being allowed to ignore the rules and the law and trample all over everyone and everything. So they never really grow up and constantly demand instant satisfaction for their every whim, and throw tantrums if they don't get it. And that's what this is, a tantrum. Trumpian to the core

They want the pandemic to be ignored and over and everything open again so they can do as they please regardless of the possible harm done. The fact that doing so would possibly kill plenty of them is beyond their ability to really understand since they've lived a life where everything is the fault of either some evil liberal governor or someone else outside their world view. Nothing they do is ever wrong, nothing bad that happens to them is ever their fault. Trumpian to the core.

We've reached the point where folks are running out of money/credit/food. People ain't going to stay home and starve. Grocery stored here are already adding security guards. We can expect a lot of civil unrest.

Thank you for posting this. It bothers me that the only health impact being considered by many is that from the virus directly. Millions of Americans are suddenly unemployed and countless business are going under. Millions of people are going to lose their homes, get evicted, lose their life savings, and otherwise be thrown into poverty. The mental health impact from all that will profound. Suicides are likely to skyrocket. Many people are likely to die just from losing access to healthcare. While many others, like you said, are going to turn to crime to survive, or to civil unrest.
We can argue ideological and partisan blame all we want, point fingers or scoff at those who are desperate to get back to work, but that's not going to fix anything. We need IMO to understand that we're all in this together in this terrible no-win situation, with difficult and often painful choices that need to be made.
Just my $0.02.

Edit: However, with all that said, I don't see the protesters in the OP as being particularly genuine, but instead political opportunists taking advantage of a difficult and painful choice the governor had to make.

I wonder what would happen to the economy if everyone on a low-income cut back spending massively in order to save like that?

While the unemployment numbers are unavoidable in this situation, the rest of that doesn't have to happen, esp. in the richest country in the solar system.

But, nooooooo, we can't dare help the less fortunate with govt. assistance to prevent foreclosures, evictions, give easy access to mental health care givers, prevent businesses from closing permanently, and on and on.

I know that'd take some leadership, and some sort of solutions seem to be talked about in the House. But the turnip refuses to help the Post Office, so any other solutions are verboten.....because the Jerb Creators want the PO to go under so privatization of the postal system by UPS/ FedEx can take place.

Oh, and the conservative base would go nuts if Trump actually helped those the unwashed trailer conservatives see as beneath them...gotta keep up their standing in the community as one step above blacks, Hispanics, Asians.....you know, all those "others" that are bleeding the country dry....LOL....and they look and smell different, too.

Unfortunately, I see this type of protest becoming nationwide as Trump mandates opening the economy and state governors and local officials push back with the need to maintain social distancing measures. Just the kind of thing that the division and mistrust (especially of the media) that Trump sows will cause.

That said, not sure I agree with some of the steps the Michigan governor took, especially the ban on sale of gardening tools. Rallies like this are certainly not the way to protest it though.
