I wonder if the oc wall is still the same.

Thanks Zap, I did see the AT review but they didnt have a q9300 in the test

What would it compare to in the review? q6600 + 15%?

q9300 would be $100 while a new rig would mean mobo, proc, ram and psu.

Just seeing if the price is worth the upgrade. (I only play FPS games)

I don't know what the difference would be. There are a lot of threads in CPUs about Sandy Bridge and most seem to think that it is a good upgrade over Core 2 Quad, but not so good over earlier Core i5/i7 quads. The big win of course is that it overclocks higher (if you get the K version) and it draws a lot less power especially under idle.

2 hours of driving highway speeds, let's say it's 120 miles, or 240 miles round trip, assuming generous 30mpg efficiency you are still spending 8 gallons or about $24 worth of gas money. Add tax, 4 hours of driving, and sometimes, it's just not worth it...

I'd have to drive probably just over 2 hours round trip. However, I'd probably be hooking up with a couple friends and hang out for a bit, so it is entertainment too.

So the K versions are unlocked, but non K versions wont oc at all?

The non-K may have a slightly overclockable (couple hundred MHz) Turbo mode. K is unlocked completely. There is no longer any FSB overclocking to speak of because Intel almost completely locked it down (unless some mobo manufacturer finds a magic way around it).

MC is just 5 miles away from me but knowing the how many tech heads there are in Boaston it'd probably be a 2 hour wait just to get into the store Sunday Morning to get one of these.

I am not upgrading but decided to make you all jealous and say I have an MC about 2 miles from me, so I could walk there if I chose to.

You have a grandfather with long hair?

A long-haired grandfather who controls all my finances! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Actually, for all the folks like me who do not have the good fortune of living near a MC, head over to the for sale/trade forum and offer to pay someone to make a run for you. I've had success with that in the past. It made sense with the 950s because they were so much cheaper, but IDK about the 2500k. $180 + shipping + $10 for their trouble is heading toward not worth it.

In So California, distance is not the limiting factor. I live about fifty miles or so from the Tustin store and it would take me about 4 hours round trip from LA.

I'm 3 miles away from the Tustin store, I'll be stopping buy to pick up one. I already purchased an Asus P8P67 Pro to go along with it. Fry's in Anaheim has most Sandy Bridge mobos already for sale (MSI/Asus/Gigabyte).

So tempting. But I told someone I was going to hold onto my 775 quad-cores for another 2-3 years.

I've stopped using all my 775 quad-cores about 4 months ago... except for one..and it's because it's my HTPC.

I'm running i5/7 exclusively now

I would be really mad if they back out of the deal. I dunno about you guys, but the MC in Mayfield, Ohio simply doesn't answer their phones. So I guess I'll be finding out the hard way.

Try checking their web site first thing tomorrow morning. If it shows up in-stock for the right price, just reserve one for in-store pickup.

Make sure to set it to whichever store you'll be going to, it only shows the stock at that store.
However, I suggest looking around first before getting a mobo at MicroCenter. Seems they're jacking up the prices a bit to make up for the CPU deals. For example, my store has the Asus P8P97 Pro listed at $230, when most other places right now are around $190.

Ahh, so they're giving us a "deal" by ramping it up first, then taking it back down. Oh well, at least they're being nice to the early adopters.

Anyway I finally got through to someone on the phones, he confirmed that the website should be updated tomarrow morning to allow in-store pickup, and that the price should be as advertised, even though that web page changed. Good news!

Ah, I hope I can reserve it in my area! Driving there and back takes over 2 hours, so it would be a shame to get there and find no CPU available.
