Last year. Socket 2011-3 Chipset X99.

The new 7800X and 7820X just released in June. With a new socket LGA 2066 and chipset X299.

How do these typically OC? I run my 5820k at 4.2ghz because anything higher requires an unhappy amount of voltage. If I can get like 4.5ghz out of a 6850, it might be a nice side grade to hold me over until the core wars simmer down a bit. I got my 5820k at this same price so I'm not worried about losing a ton of money.

I think 4.3-4.4 is typical max OC on air for 6850K, but if you win the lottery, 4.6 is possible with water.

IMO no. If you are going to get an Intel HEDT platform, X299 is far more modern than X99 and stock performance is considerably better.

If you are on a budget and plan to OC and don't care for the updated platform, then a 6850K is okay.

MC also has the Ryzen 7 1700 for $280. Lower scores, but I like the much lower wattage.
