Hmmm, interesting.
It doesn't say what brand it is. But it looks like their in house brand, Powerspec or something like that.
I missed out on the old 30" Syntax deal. I might have to go check it out this weekend.

The specs sure look like the 30" Syntax from a few weeks ago. Mostly the resolution points to the Syntax.
I just picked up the little brother of this TV, the 27" model, from Fry's last week for $900.

Good deal. I got the Syntax Olevia 30" during the sale a couple of weeks ago and like it. I think that the picture in the link is confusing because it shows the PowerSpec which is a nice display too, but doesn't have DVI input like the Syntax.

That is the PowerSpec model. You can tell by the black frame around the LCD. The black frame is actually better because it makes the picture look wider and LCD brighter. Also the black PROBABLY does not reflect LCD light off the inside of the frame like the silver does on the Syntax (hard to explain, but when sitting far back, it looks like there is a dead row of verticle pixels on the left and right edge, when its actually the glare of the LCD reflecting off the silver frame at a 45 degree angle). The Syntax has a oval shaped black remote sensor at the front, the outline of which (stupidly) glows LED blue when the LCD is off.

The Powerspec does not have DVI
The Powerspec is manufactured in Thailand. The Syntax in Taiwan.
The Powerspec's speakers are not detactable.

Strange that the PowerSpec model has the same 15:9 aspect ratio at the Sytanx 30" model. Are these using the same basic panel with a different body?

The 15:9 ratio seems awkward. Can anyone comment? How does HDTV show? Crop left/right, or slight black bars top and bottom?

From what I have been reading:
720p is 1280 x 720 and the resolution of this tv is 1280x768.
I can't comment on the Powerspec but the Syntax will show 24 black lines of resoultion on the top and the bottom.

Yeah, the picture looks like the Powerspec since it doesn't look like it has the side speakers.
The sales person there last time was saying how the $999 price they were selling those syntax were less then their cost....

I want one. Is there a micro center I can go to in LA? Their online website doesn't seem to carry this tv.

I was able to get one of these on BF for a final cost of $900. I've had no issues with it and love the picture quality. It is difficult to adjust the picture using Digital Video Essentials because it leaves the entire menu up, which gets in the way of the test video.

I don't quite understand the issue with 16:9, as I don't have HDTV to verify, but utilizing a Progressive Scan DVD player hooked up through the Component outputs, when I play a 16:9 Anamorphic DVD, the whole video fills the screen. I do not see any additional black bars. Is it only an issue when playing HDTV sources? To me, the black bars don't bother me.

Don't forget the ongoing $50 Visa deal. Some stores will give you the 50 dollars off instantly, others stick to the letter of the law and make you wait for the certificate.

its 100% definately the powerspec model as i have the paper ad right in front of me which clearly states that it is the powerspec house brand, and its 999 after 200 in trash MIR's so this deal is definately not that hot.

Apply at the store and, if approved, get a $50 savings certificate by mail for your next purchase when you purchase at least $50 on your Micro Center Rewards VISA® Credit Card that day

Some people have reported success in getting the 50 off immediately rather than in a mailed certificate.
