Saw that the Intel Q9300 cpu was $100 after instant $40 dollar store rebate. Not bad for those looking to upgrade their S775 systems.

Not sure how long this will last but its a nice price nonetheless. This is worth the extra change from the Q8300 deal IMO.

better than a q6600 at 3.2?

I was gonna jump on tiger directs 40 off 100 or more (for a new monitor w/ cupon billmelater option) but I know my processor is a dinosaur...

Q6600 is only useful if you have an older motherboard that has no 45nm support. Q9300 runs cooler and its faster clock for clock. Mine ran 3ghz on stock volts on a cheap motherboard with no voltage options.

I still have two Q6600's in use and a few q9550's if i was near micro center i would buy this and sell the Q6600 on ebay for 110+$. to be honest all you will get is a cooler pc that uses less juice. The Q6600 and Q9300 are like 2% diff with teh Q9300 being barely faster. If you just play games you wont notice it if you encode stuff you still wont notice it since 2% is hard to notice. Better off spending money on raid or ssd's

Q9300? That's pretty hot because $100 is their sale price on the Q8200 or something like that. I'm guessing B&M only, as usual?

if i had a use for it, id much rather have the i3 550 for the same price. im sure it would outperform this in most cases as well

http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0350692

the fact that theyre dumping all these core 2 chips and older i's tells you just how much better the new stuff is going to be. id save my 99 and get whatever comes out a month from now

well i think everyone would rather drop the extra 100 and get the 920i7 but if they have to upgrade mobo/ram / cpu / heatsink it becomes pain in the butt. (tho you can prob sell the old stuff for same price as new stuff.

I have an e4300 that has run at 3.0 every day of it's happy little life. I'm going to be hooking this computer up the the projector in the media room and use it as a HTPC/gaming rig. Would the Q9300 be noticible improvement, or should I upgrade the 512mb 4870 video card instead?

Awesome -

The core2's definitely are being dumped everywhere... but this is a great way to upgrade your system to quad core if you don't want to go through the pains of mobo/cpu/memory replacement + windows reinstall + reinstalling programs/documents.

I jumped in on the other quad core deal MC was having and noticed a significant improvement in some games which are processor heavy [Civ 5 for example] and overall performance of Windows 7.

Just be aware that some BIOS's don't correctly report the CPU temperature so you may need to update the bios or disable the temperature monitoring in the bios and "trust" a 3rd party program.

I have a Q6600 G0

would it be worth it to grab this, then flip the Q6600 in the FS/FT forums? Or not really enough of a difference to make it worthwhile?

Still 20+ left in stock at my local MC...this is tempting. I have an e8500 right now clocked at over 4 ghz which has been running smooth now for over 2 years. Part of me really wants a quad core because it would speed up the encoding that I do and games are increasingly taking advantage of all 4 cores. The only drawback is having to open up my computer case which is packed to the hilt with hardware and dealing with the hs/f setup which was a pain to get on in the first place.

Two weeks ago I jumped on the q8300 deal. I'm very happy with it - a huge improvement on Left for Dead 2, it turns out my e4400 was a big bottle neck. Plus quicker at multi-tasking, I'll copy files between two large folders, and encode something, and edit another video all at the same time without a hitch. Dual core didn't like that. And quicker at encoding - but I tend to just set them and then walk away anyway.

Too bad - I would have spent the extra $10 on the q9300...
Oh well.

Be aware that the Q9300 won't overclock as nicely as your E8500, mostly because of the lower multiplier. I've had my Q9300 at 3.5ghz for about two years now. That was the highest I could go rock solid, but now it's starting to show errors in Prime95. I paid $190 for mine back then.

This showed up as OOS last night but now's showing 20+ in stock. I have an e6550, I usually don't have free money but I just happen to have about 100 bucks laying around. This or an SSD hummm decisions decisions

I bought an Intel G2 last Spring. It was like night and day coming from a WD Raptor. I can't say for sure because I don't own the Q9300 (still considering it) but think you would notice more of an improvement in performance from buying the SSD.

if you game and have a >=midlevel vid card the cpu will make a bigger difference... if you don't game the ssd will make all your twiddling junk faster...

Just picked one up yesterday. Upgraded from an e4400 @ 3ghz and so far I have this @ 3hz with stock voltage. Will try to get it up to 3.2-3.3, hopefully with 1.3v or under. Thanks!
