Microcenter...Doing the Right Thing After Error

I ordered a $499 16GB iPad for the SO with the "in-store pickup" option. Get a confirmation that item is ready.

Show up to store - item is not ready. They are out of 16GB iPads. They apologize, and say that they aren't even allowed to confirm online sales due to Apple restrictions.

Store general manager comes over to me and gives two options:

32GB for the 16GB price ($499)

Or the 64GB for the 32GB price ($599).



I jumped on the 64. My SO will google it the next morning, and I will look like a hero.



Thank you Microcenter. You could have easily told me to fuck off instead of taking off $100.

Years back they had a deal on 19" CRT monitors on the website for like $99 with free shipping. I bought one (buddy did too), then it sat, and after about a week my order changed to cancelled. When I called and asked they said it was an error and the thing weighed so much they couldn't give free shipping, manager ended up agreeing to send it out anyways. Thing was a beast but looked awesome.

I love MC. They probably sold it at a slight loss or a very slim margin because of that. Better to be extremely generous and gain repeat business and word of mouth stuff.

My business is booming because of them. They have nothing but excellent prices that beat everybody except some online etailers.
So in some cases I am able to offer a install service + part and the client would still pay less than just for a part at BB.

Seriously though, right now it is not a good place to shop as it is a pandemonium. The line to cash register is like 40 minutes long. This is THE IPO to get.

get there right after they open. I went sunday and monday and had no isues with the line.

went monday to return a converter box that did not work because it lost power during the setup and they had no problem changing it for a different brand.

I wish they had one near me, I was in California and went to one looking for a power adapter, they sold me the wrong one, so I called them and they said to bring it back and they would give me the correct one. When I got there they didn't have it in stock, but the took a compatible one off a floor model and gave it to me at no cost, and allowed me to return the other one no problem.
