Saw this today at 3pm and drove to Santa Clara 45 mins away and picked one up! Last I saw there were 5 remaining minus one that I bought. Funny how the sales guy wanted me to buy extended warranty for $25, no thank you. But I did buy the antistatic wrist strap for $6 that he insisted mainly because he really wanted me not to zap the chip. Oh well...

Funny. I was at that same store a few days ago and the guy was pitching the same extended warranty "u zap it/you own it" pheer mongering over the re-badged 80GB A-Data/Intel/34nm/trim SSD I was purchasing. I looked at him and asked.. are you serious?

Let us know how you do with that CPU. I got a 860 from them a few months back and it runs fine at 3.6 on air at stock voltages. I hear the unlocked multiplier on those chips helps very little in regard to OC'ing. Still a great price though.

My local microcenter guys seem a bit more aggitated now because people go in for the cpu deals and nothing else gets sold. It's business but it also kills a good local source for pc parts. I just hope they dont raise the cpu prices or offer incentives to buy it with a motherboard (boards I have no interst in) combo like as of late.

Yeah, I asked a sales associate how much they lose on these high end intel deals and from what I understood he claimed they still make a profit, but very very little.
I was a cheapass getting a combo deal, and managed to get them to price match newegg on an open box motherboard, so I got a m4a785td-m and x4 630 for $125 after tax and combo savings. I was going to buy some clearance memory as well, but it wasn't in stock (despite site saying otherwise) so I ended up just getting the combo. I actually felt kinda bad, and as you mention, wondered if enough people come in and buy their full system to make up for us bargain lovers who only buy the sale items.

They get a ton of promotion in many forums though. I've seen so many threads about Micro Centers cpu deals I can't guess just how many. I wouldn't even know they existed (and I have one an hour away)

Picked one up in Tustin, CA yesterday. No HSF, but it comes in a decent looking smaller retail package. They had a bunch left.

And yes, the employees will try their best to make you buy their warranty.

$100 to pick up 5 of a deal and stick each in a box is probably good money to many people, esp if they are not working.

Got up early on my way home from working out of state with the sole purpose of swinging by MC for this specific deal. Kids and wife were in tow, so it had to be brisk to avoid any meltdowns and when we get there, they are CLOSED! Apparently we left too early and I wasn't about to wait in the parking lot with two children under 3 years old and a wife that hates computers....... Maybe the next time there will be another deal.
