Incase you're wondering, yes, these were the initial sandy bridge release prices at Microcenter, but they upped both of the processors $20 2 weeks ago and just lowered them back to these prices on Monday, so that's why I'm posting this. I also thought it would be helpful to people looking to switch to sandy bridge after the recall, since the new motherboards are coming out now.

In store only.

i5 2500K:

Next lowest price on Google product search is $227.48.

i7 2600K:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0354587

Next lowest price on Google product search is $329.95.

Prices good through 3/20.

Yeah, mine is a pretty far drive too. I wish they shipped these, but I know that they're selling these at a loss to hope you'll buy more stuff when you're in the store.

fwiw - this has been MC's price since the release of the Sandy Bridge cpu's.

I know that those were the release prices for sandy bridge, but they did up the prices $20 in the past 2 weeks and just lowered them again on Monday, which is why I posted this. I'll update the main description to make this more clear.

You are correct sir. They did their usual bologna of jacking up the prices for no apparent reason. And then as usual, they bring them back down. The price for the 2500k has been $199 for at least 2 weeks.

How far do I have to drive out of Wisconsin to get one of these?

Chicago has the two closest ones to you. PM me your city and maybe we can carpool? That would save on gas and tolls (I have an iPass for tolls). I'm heading down once motherboard availability is good again, and hopefully they have the combo deals again.

Jacking up prices... while still being cheaper than Newegg.

Thanks for the post.

Question:
1) How do we know these are the updated (post-recall) 2500k?

2) What's a good motherboard for this?

Been wanting to upgrade in anticipation for Battlefield 3 and Diablo 3. =)

How does Microcenter post a profit on these processor deals? They are outrageously good prices.

I think that they're actually selling the processor at a loss (called a loss leader) to get people into the store. They're hoping you'll buy a motherboard, memory, etc.

Yep, they did it with the I7 920 as well, I had my sister get one for me and they bugged her about that being all she needed

#1 Loss leader. Only available in-store. "BTW would you like to purchase some RAM with that new processor?"

#2 Volume. Micro Center does not carry the full line of CPUs that you can find elsewhere. They only carry the most popular ones, to channel sales into fewer SKUs. Also, I'm sure they find their way into Micro Center's own line of "Pwerspec" branded PCs. Additionally, the typical "cost" quoted is the 1k unit price. I'm sure Micro Center gets a break by buying more than that at a time.

#3 Channel rebates. Intel "rewards" volume with channel rebates. It's kind of like how you can buy a car at "dealer invoice" and be really happy about the killer deal you just got, but the dealer still makes money off the sale at the end of the month/quarter.

I have an ASUS p8p67 pro, and I like it. It supports SLI, so if you don't need that, just go with the p8p67 model and save some money.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know where you can get the p8p67 pro after the recall? I can't find it on microcenter.

Now if they would just get some more MB's in stock and I will have to make a trip and pick up a new CPU. They only have 2 ASUS MB in stock.

I have the original one with the defect (haven't gotten around to exchanging it yet because it's working fine for me), but microcenter emailed me that they were getting some in stock last week. I don't think they've put them on their website yet, but some of the stores may actually have them if you call.
