Microcenter Question:

Hey guys, I already called up my local Microcenter but the two sales reps I talked to gave weren't to helpful.

I'm sure some of you here have bought processors from Microcenter - I'm just asking does the $50 off select boards apply also to buying a Intel i5 2500k or JUST the i7 2600k? (I acknowledge the selection is limited.)

The first sales rep said yes, but then said he wasn't sure so transferred me over to the BYIS department. That sales rep said yes, but they only have two boards available, when asked which they were the low budget Giga and MSI ($100 starting, $50 after discount.)

Their flier lists 8 boards, one of which I'd get if the deal applies to the i5 2500k, the ASRock Z68 Gen4 ($185, $135 with the $50 off.)

Thanks for any info, I'll call again today and see if I can get another rep before I drive down there.

As far as I can tell, right now it is only the i7. That is all that is listed in my local add, although it looks like any and all Z68 mobos qualify.

If you order online, you can get that $119 ASUS Z68 with a 2500k and the bundle discount is still applied. Order it to pickup in store and you'd be set.

Otherwise, 2600k is the only way to get a board discount right now.

Any idea if it would apply to the ASRock Z68 Gen3? I know, they are essentially the same board, but I sort of like the color scheme a tad better on the ASRock haha. Just vanity.

There are only two boards discounted with the I5.

Yeah, that's what the DYIS guy said. Those two boards aren't very enticing either.

Why don't you order for pick-up.. If it is in stock, they will hold it for three calendar days..
Deals should also be reflected in your on-line order.

I guess my main grip is the way the flier is laid out. On the right side of the Intel page, it clearly states "Extra $50 off when you buy any of these boards an a i7 2600k" then you can see the boards it applies to (yellow extra $50 off logo) on select boards.

However, on the left side of the page, it states "$50 off these boards when you purchases a processor" and right above it it lists a bunch of different processors (such as the i5 2500k) so that's where my confusion lies.

Saving $50 be sweet, not a total deal breaker if I don't save it, but was just wishful thinking haha.

Even without the mobo combo discount, their price on the 15 2500k is pretty good.

If I'm reading the ad correctly, there are 8 boards included in the combo deal, including a Gigabyte UD3-B3, which isn't too bad of a board.

Discussed a bit here...

I don't think that you are going to get a discount with i5 on the Asrock unless you are extremely lucky with the sales guy. GL

Haha, maybe I'll send the girlfriend in - she'd probably get suckered into walking out with the ASRock Fatal1ty and the i7 2600k haha.

Thanks for that thread.

Glad I'm not the only one who read the ad that way. The left side of the page is very misleading as it doesn't disclose which processor you have to buy, while the right side of the page clearly states i7 2600k (and has more options of course.)

I have a feeling that when Micro Center runs their next ad the 2500k will be back in the combo deal. Maybe even the 2550k. I'd imagine as we approach IB and Z77 we'll see more deals from Micro Center on these chips and boards.

Just a guess though, I could be totally wrong.

Yea, their deals are constantly changing.

It goes from just the i5, to just the i7, to both, different discount amounts, etc.

What doesn't change is their great price on the processor itself, more so with the 2550K and that facebook coupon if you don't need the iGPU and something like QuickSync.

You can normally tell if you will get a combo deal by just adding them to your cart on the site, because it automatically deducts the amount if it qualifies for discount. I added 2500K and that Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 to a cart and no discount :/

My friend picked up a 2500k and a Gigabyte board earlier this month. It was either the UD3 or the UD3H-B3 and he got the $50 off. This was at the one in Duluth Ga. I also noticed that a lot of the boards listed in the paper were not sold in this store.

If you go back with the receipts within the refund period, you can a refund for the difference between what you paid and any new deal they have. Got a free mobo deal done that way as they put it up after I bought the phenom.

Their ad is a bit confusing this time around, and they constantly change their deals since last month the I3 got $50 off almost any motherboard combo and that's gone now. Just go on their website and place things in your cart, any discounts will be applied automatically and you can set it up for in store pick up.

Yeah, I also added the ASRock to my cart and no deal. I'm looking over the ASUS, but not sure if I'd want to settle. Price is damn good though...

I'm also not looking into too many bells and whistles, but sometimes it just feels having the options if I ever do decide to tinker as a perk and worth investing a little extra on the board.

But I said that last time I picked my motherboard and outside of getting a decent OC on my 930, I didn't really use the other features haha.

Thanks for all the info guys. I might hold out since the month is almost over, their new flier should be out soon - and maybe I'll get more word on IVB too.

I went in Monday and purchased an i5 2400, asus P8H61 mb, and 8bg of Kingston ram. It was time to replace my old Q8200. It has had a habit of sporadically not wanting to boot the first time the past couple of years. It has gotten worse lately, where even the wife has complained. I tried another power supply, but no go. I kept the cost low enough so it was an easy sell to the wife.
