Upgradeplanet says:
"168 Pin 256MB PC133 32Mx4 *Limit Five* For VIA KT-133, VIA KX-133, AMD 751 Iron Gate, VIA Apollo 133A Pro Chipsets ONLY"

I really haven't been paying attention to memory lately but what makes it only compatible w these chipsets? I'm running a 440BX, am I out of luck or is what they say irrelevant?

Refresh
Micron's 256Mb SDRAM has auto refresh, which requires all 8,192 rows to be refreshed every 64ms (tREF). This command should be distributed every 7.8µs. Self refresh mode is also available to retain data without external clocking. Micron's 256Mb SDRAM supports concurrent auto precharge, a PC100 requirement.

I got that off the site...What does it mean???

Hey Rotorvator,

Thanks for the reply. Do you have the kt7-RAID m/b? I sorta know what RAID is, but I'm not sure how to implement it. Should I just be able to follow the instructions and get everything up to speed myself? Or should I have a computer specialist help me out?

Do you have an email I can message you at? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks, sort of. I will get the PC1600 DDR instead. For the extra pennies, its worth it. Man, AMD is killing intel on the battlefield now. Most of the benchmarks out there prove it. I remember the old days when I had to pay a buck a meg.

I'm sooooo tempted, but their Web site is incredibly primitive. They don't even handle their own credit card transactions. Hmmmm.

Staples does carry this memory - I received mine yesterday. Only paid $78.11 total, including tax & shipping. I did have to try 2 CSR's though

The MT part shows that it is a generic. That's actually the number on the Micron chip.

Crucial modules, incl. those carried at Staples, begin with a CT part # ...

I almost went for it, but no... NO more PC100/PC133 SDRAMS. Next RAM I spend my money on will be DDR.

The benchmarks that I've reviewed has yet to prove that DDR is worth a crap. The PC133 on the new Via chipset are on par with the DDR performance. The price for the memory and mobo are not worth the cost right now. I'm sure towards the end of the year, this will change as they come out with better platforms for DDR and the memory is a little cheaper. With memory this cheap, everyone should have a minimum of 256mb in their machine. Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps we should reserve judgment on DDR performance until we have a VIA DDR platform to which we can compare our beloved KT133A. I will be surprised if VIA doesn't outdo AMD with KT266 whatever chipset. It seems to me that AMD gets something out the door to kinda prime the pump or just to have something to run their latest CPU on (pretty damn good idea if you ask me) but don't really try to make it the best. Comparing KT133A to AMD 760 probably just isn't logical, but we'll see. If DDR can give me a 10% boost without costing a whole lot more, why wouldn't I use it in a new system?

This price is ok,
this is generic memory (could be unknown pcb maker, unknown soldering process maker) using micron chips, not the one completely made by Micron that's called Crucial.
but Crucial is $103, also free shipping, lifetime warranty and guarantee to work in any system.
you decide which one to buy.
