Microscopic Photography

I know a lot of people here are into photography, so I thought I'd share some pics of the type of photography I get to do.

PIC 1

That's a star on one of the American flag postage stamps at 66X.

I took that picture with this microscope and camera:

The other pic I have is BPAE cells tagged with Fluorescein fluorescent protein:

My fluorescence sample is actually triple-tagged in red, green and blue. I think this weekend I'll take some multi-channel fluorescence images and if/when I do I'll update here with them.

I didn't save any of the images I took with those, unforunately.

EDIT: Here is another pic I have, and at a higher res than the earlier pics. It's a good pic, but there is one corner that's sorta "empty."

I did a demo for a researcher at one of my nearby universities, and in the process I captuerd a few images like the ones I SAID I was going to do oh so long ago. I've cropped them into 1600x1200 resolutions for anybody that wants to use them as wallpapers:

Those pics are so-so, imho. I took them on the researcher's scope, and the ones I have are a bit better. I still think I can take better ones, and if I can muster the ambition, I'll still try to put my scope together and take some better pics.

BPAE = Bovine Pulmonary Artery Endothelial

No, the stamp looked similar to to THIS ONE. Still, they're pretty frickin' small.

I don't own the scopes. I sell them. I'm a microscope dealer. I work out of my house.

I'll take some much cooler images this weekend, and I'll put them up on monday for everyone to see.

/me wonders how much a nice binocular transmission microscope with 10-100x objectives (inc oil immersion) and Canon EOS adapter.

Probably too much, for it just to live on my kitchen table.

A Zeiss Axiostar with trinocular head, EOS mount and A-Plan objectives will probably start around $4K, give or take. Fluorescence equipment (as pictured there) would take another $5K or so.

The microscope/camera setup on which I took the pic of fluorescent BPAE cells lists for about $34K. That scope is equipped to take pictures like THIS (i.e. with 3 colors) and I intend to take some this weekend.

And none of my scopes "live" on my kitchen table. It's just that my kitchen table operates more frequently as a workbench. The scopes spend most of their time dismantled in boxes to be kept away from dust and general exposure.
