MicroSD not recognized on Android phone

well, i had my SD in there for a few years. today i moved some apps from phone to SD card and cleared the cache on some apps. now my Sensation won't recognize my SD card. it says: SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem.

My computer doesn't recognize it either. fack. 16gb of pictures, videos, apps, etc gone? fml

What you can do is try a quick format in Windows and then use data recovery software to try to recover all your files.

The test is whether Windows can even access the SD card. IF you can't even format, chances are the card is just toast.

can't even format from Windows. getting this from phone now:

"external media in unknown state"

may just be a dead SD.....

ic. does windows hang? windows seems to hang when media is dead, and I got that with a couple of CF/SD cards. my main experiences were with cameras where it'd fail to read/format on both camera and computer...

obviously if you're dedicated enough you can transfer the NAND chips to another device and it'd probably be ok, but ehh nothing I've lost is THAT critical

yeah seemed to hang earlier but just tried it again and it let me format. fack. just lost years and years of photos. didn't even take a backup once in over a year. lesson learned i guess.

A friend of mine gave me a 16gb SD card from a replacement phone he got so I could upgrade my my Evo from the standard 8gb. When I swapped the 16 in I was getting the same "external media in unknown state" message. I couldn't format on the phone, my Windows desktop or Macbook Pro.

I bought a 16gb card from WalMart and popped it in....worked without having to do anything. Sounds like the card might be fried, unfortunately.

Mount in in linux and try and extract the data. I found linux much more versatile for screwed filesystems than windows.

got lucky. a buddy of mine used a recovery tool and got back 85% of the pics. the rest got corrupted. lesson learned. always do monthly backups.

Install G+ and set it to upload your photos when it's plugged in.

I can't believe you never moved them off your phone in years.
