how many hours did you spend trying to figure out how to play matroska codecs back in the day, or getting dual monitors to work?

Dual monitors takes just a few minutes to setup in Ubuntu. It also detects and installs every driver automatically which no Microsoft OS has ever done until 7. 7 did a pretty good job on my laptop.

A family pack for business versions? That doesn't even make sense.

Is there going to be a family pack for Professional Edition? Home Premium lacks a few features I may use.

Doesn't appear to be, according to the Ars article:
(O)ther editions like Professional and Ultimate do not contain the Family Pack wording.

This might change as time goes on. Professional I think they'd relegate to volume licensing; Ultimate might have a chance, though

The difference between Home and Professional seems to be the Virtual XP Mode. I wonder what that would cost independently, since I could probably go with a Home 3-pack, but get the virtual xp mode for just one of them.

Sweet, how many hours you clocked up in Mass Effect on that system?

Oh... right
<--- Don't play computer game.

If game is what I wanted then a Wii or PS3 would be a better buy.

And if Internet is all you wanted then a Netbook would be a better buy.

I preordered 3 Windows Home Premium copies from Amazon. $150 shipped is most likely less than a 3-license family copy anyways.

Edit: I agree that it's a good concept though. They should apply the same concept to Microsoft Office.

I'd be pretty mad if this happened, since I already pre-ordered my copy of Win7 for my main desktop. I'd love to put it on my netbook and wife's laptop, but don't use either enough to justify it.

Nice that they're doing that. I still won't bother upgrading my laptop though - not worth the hassle of trying to find drivers or just reconfiguring everything.

The Beta recognized everything on my Dell Laptop. I haven't had to install a driver since.

Did I mention I'm also lazy? I'm not going to fix what isn't broken.

If I built a new machine or was getting a new computer, sure, I'd go for Windows 7, but I'm not...

It's already being done. If you buy Office 2007 Home and Student Edition Retail, you have a 3-user license.

It's very nice to hear that. I've got Office 2003 right now, so I'll probably hold out until the next version comes out.

so they are saying that MS is going to offer the 3 pack family plan for the same price as a single copy? Why would anyone buy the single copy ?
