Yep MATX...

Giveaways's - Asus EEE PC, two 955 X4, TWKR CPU, motherboards, bunch of Win 7 Ultimate, TV Tuners, Wirless mouse & keyboard, HTPC case...

I'm sure it will vary by Location.

This is great to hear. I thought the board was going to be a full ATX board, but mATX revives my plan to tuck the parts in a mini antec p180 and put it behind my lcd tv for a nice htpc connected via hdmi.

Does anyone know if the Windows 7 Ultimate was a 64 bit or 32 bit or both that came with the DIY KIT?

It's probably like vista, one key and two dvds, one for 32 and one for 64. Then you choose what to install but you can't do both.

Well, I would really like to know for sure if anyone bought the KIT. Hope it has the 64 bit like you said.

So this link now appears to be working. It even appears to be allowing shipping to your home address. What prevents you from not going to the event and ordering the kit? I'm a partner from a few yrs ago, so I may be able to get this price anyway. But I'm just curious. What intel offering is this similar to right now for performance?

So this is a so/so deal I take it? The W7 is the kicker, but you can't resell it anyway. Here is the exact processor, a similar mobo, plus 2 gigs of DDR2, and a "throw in" case for less than what you're going to be paying here: Clicky (although it is Tiger Direct)

thanks for the reminder bump on this thread trying to get approval for the Tampa event(boss conveniently scheduled his vacation same week after giving tentative approval so dealing with his sub isn't going so well) as for your tiger deal you'll still have to acquire an os

Wondering if Windows 7 that comes with the kit is one dvd with both the 32 and 64 bit? I want to make sure it has the 64 bit. Anyone out there who bought this kit, can you tell me...please. Thanks in advance.

Your linked barebones is actually not anywhere in the same league as the kit model. Yes, the CPU is the same but the whole reason the mobo costs more is it's a high end 785G model. The built in graphics is made for HTPC application and wipes the floor with the tiger direct model, plus it's just better built (asus higher quality line).

That all being said your deal is still nice, especially if your going to use a discreet GPU anyway. For my usage this kit is by far the better deal but for others it may not be. Also I'm not sure how it's less, $219.99 is greater than $189...

Deaner, thanks for the infomation. 64 bit is what I like to use. How do you like the motherboard and the processor that came with the kit? And I read to purchase the kit, you have to become a registered member of the AMD Partner Program. Does that cost anything?

So it's good for HTPC apps, and you get W7. That's the Pros, huh? But as someone mentioned, many of us can get W7 for about $30 if we're resourceful. And TD has $40 Cash back on that barebones incidentally - if you're trying to figure the math, lol

I am also happy to hear it's MicroATX, gonna be a great upgrade for my current setup. Even if I did pay full price...

Ah, gotcha. I also got Win 7 for $30 but need 4 more copies. Also I did not see anything about $40 off, I just added it to my cart and started the checkout process and the price remained the same so I was somewhat confused.

Jimlee2009, no problem. No, you do not have to be a member of any program to get the kit. They will push the AMD partner program, but everything is optional. Don't have the chip installed yet - going to go a different route with the MB.

BF1942 - yeah free lunch, giveaways - yeah its a great time.

Any suggested builds around this kit? Maybe someone has a newegg wish list that completes the rest of the PC?

I am signed up for DC in a few days and an still on the fence with it. I was saving up $500 or so for a new i5 system (need Case (Antec 900), Mobo, CPU and Memory, will re-use everything else...) to replace my Epox 939 system - which despite being built in 2005 is still soldiering along quite happily though s l o w l y. I figure I could do this build for about $250 with these components:

CPU, Mobo & Win 7 - $189
APEX TX-381-C Black Steel Micro ATX Case - Retail - $25 (free shipping)
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) - $46
+ $5 shipping on the RAM
= About $265

I don't overclock and about the most power-intensive thing I do is watch videos and convert audiobooks from MP3 to M4B so I am thinking this might be a good alternative for a year or two until i5 is settled a bit more.

Any thoughts?

Does the CPU come with a cooler?

The CPU is retail boxed and comes with the HSF. Tht i5 will not only be "setteled a bit more" in a couple of years it will be long gone You can get the Antec 900 for $70 @ Frys right now and an i920 DO at Microcenter for $199. Both good deals. Unless you don't need the Win 7 Ultimate, it is going for $204 at most places presently and makes the DIY kit less than Free! You will also get a nice Microsoft insulated lunch kit and a Microsoft carry bag and a Pen.

Thanks Cardio - Unfortunately I am no longer a student and am running the 2005 original build OEM XP so buying a new OS is part if this equation - with this build I get Win7 Ultimate free, with the i5 I am looking at another $110 for an OEM Win 7 Home, $190 for OEM Ultimate.

Does anyone know the name of the racing game they were demoing? I never caught it but it was pretty fun to play.

That H.A.W.X. demo was a lot of fun also.

I think they said it was Dirt 2.
