I think they said it was Dirt 2.

Yeah, no I dont think so, I was in Dallas - was not Dirt2 demo, not saying they changed that.

On a side note the X4 620 I got is CACYC = Deneb core - meaning L3 cache is able to be unlocked. Some people have already been successful.

Just got home from the Reston/VA event -- early. I didn't buy the kit beforehand because I wasn't sure I could make the event. Went and signed in and was told I could buy the kit using their computer at lunch. Came a few minutes before lunch started and there was a line, guy told me to come back right after lunch when the server seminar started. Came back right after lunch, same guy told me it was now too late, and was nice enough to roll his eyes and tell me that I "*could* have ordered the kit beforehand". Where do they get these d@#chbags?

Oh, and it was a care race dem (Dirt2?) in Reston, was pretty cool but the guy they picked to demo it on the big screen pretty much immediately ran into a wall and stayed there

Does anyone know why when you purchase the DIY kit online, it ask for a shipping address?? I thought you pick it up at the end of day of the event with your printout confirmation. I haven't purchase it yet, but getting ready to.

You pick it up at 5pm, at the end of the roadshow, you can also buy it right there. Be aware though, there is only one laptop to do that and you might want to ignore whatever they tell you about coming back after lunch when the line is shorter...

Thanks, Teddy. I plan to purchase online before I get to the tour, but online, it ask for a shipping address. Do you know anything about this? I know you pick it up at the roadshow.

Sweet!
Since I had no DDR3 memory, I just stuffed the CPU into a AM2+ board and ran it for now.
Just confirmed that mine too is CACYC 0937.

Huge difference between this MS/AMD show and the MS launch event show happening around this same time.

Seems they treat the MS/AMD attendees as more technical, by giving them both am unlockable CPU and the motherboard to do it, plus the 64bit version on Win7. Other MS tech event only gave out 32bit Win7 (still great for free, and yes the key works for either version). Now I am REALLY glad I went to this and paid the extra for the combo.

Just need a deal on dirt cheap DDR3, like 4 gig for $40???

That group of High School kids in the back of the room cleaned up on the drawings at the end. I think they got 50% of the stuff being given out.

Does anyone know if overclocking is limited when you unlock the L3 cache?

Just got back from the NJ event. It was a pretty standard fare (read: long and boring) -- it really seemed like a waste of time for us, since the DIY kits were nowhere to be found, and have to be shipped.

This pisses me off since I am never home to receive mail + there is no tracking information (or any information for that matter) for me to even schedule a time to be home to wait. I'll have to eat it as a $200 loss, or bitch to my credit card company a couple of weeks from now and say I paid for something I never received. Eating the $200 seems easier.

The giveaways were lame, there were no HTPC cases, or netbook giveaways like someone in this thread said -- just a couple of X2 processors, tuner cards, mice and a couple of motherboards. I'd say that there were roughly 15 giveaways for 300 people. One person somehow managed to win two prizes. Don't know how since it was 1 entry per person.

I did catch an XL Windows Server R2 shirt though. Too bad I need an XXXL.

$200 loss and waste of time for me. (+$30 in tolls and parking)

I was actually thinking about it but decided not to go at the last minute.

I went to the reston event too. Those stupid kids made me mad. Every one of them won something. The first two presentations were interesting. Everything else was sleep inducing. I should have just went to the car and took a nap after lunch and then came back before 5 to get the kit.

Speaking of the kit. Did anyone order theirs in advance and have the $189 hold put on their card right away....only to never actually get charged? I *know* the hold was there but after a few days it went away and I've yet to be charged. Couldn't find a good number to actually call someone about it as in three weeks I'm moving and my accounts will all be changed. So they better hurry up with it.

I had the hold too, and it disappeared. I used the contact information on the OEM website some time ago, only to receive the following email.

We suggest you contact the OEM Sales Center Support at: support@oemsalescenter.com for further assistance with this issue.

I have heard nothing since then. I've already written a complaint to the BBB against Microsoft, and AMD for wasting my time and travel expenses. These orders were either cancelled, or will ship when the prices we paid are dramatically lower.

EDIT: WAIT, did you actually get your kit? Those who went to the NJ event got nothing.

Yeah, they had huge boxes of them there. Only had to bring the printed receipt. One guy at the table was comparing ID's to receipts, the other guy was not.

Damn. Our group got screwed royally and no one is answering any emails I send. It is sort of nerve racking to not know when I may be charged $200 at random for something that may not be worth it.

Hopefully I'll get something settled out of my BBB complaint.

That sucks, seems only NJ got screwed. But why not just dispute the charge with your CC?,, that's the best reason to use a CC.

I recently got Windows 7 Ultimate at an MS event (for free) but they disc they gave was the 32 bit version. I know the product keys are good for either 32 or 64 bit but I don't have access to a 64 bit install dvd. Does anyone know how to get around this (can you download it from MS somewhere, or call and get a 64 bit version sent?)

No Canada this time? Booo...

Some made the trip down to Seattle, the MS speaker made reference to that fact.

I thought it was worth my time, the morning session seemed a bit slow, but the pace picked up in the afternoon. I ended up with a CADAC chip, so no Deneb for me. :\

When I was ordering my kit at the laptop out front one of the girls made mention of the NJ show not having the kits available, and she said they would be shipping them instead. I didn't ask for a time-frame. I noted the thread here and on [h]ardforum with reference to the NJ issue, maybe someone from MS/AMD will followup and update the thread.

If that doesn't pan out I would call MS and ask for the corporate switchboard and then go from there, hopefully the operator can find the proper department to handle the issue.

The included motherboard board is very buggy.
If you overclock at all, (above 217 from stock 200), you will need to drop memory down from 800 to 400. Sucks big time. Many posts on this issue that is affecting all of these Asus boards. Asus seems to be aware of this and do not care.

google
m4a785td-m memory timings

Also, mine failed to unlock L3 cache (even at stock speeds). It would show unlocked, but would reboot instead of starting windows. Yes, tried for hours using every setting and searching the net for tips. Perhaps if they fix the memory issue it will also allow more unlocks.

End result of swapping to this AM3 Asus motherboard is I am $80 lighter in wallet for DDR3 memory, and have the same benchmarking results as I did with AM2+ motherboard that I used the CPU in prior to getting memory. Was running the X4 620 at 250x13 or 3.25GHz, 24/7 problem free in Asrock 780 mAtx motherboard as part of a cool and silent HTPC gaming rig..

Charge went through on mine 10/31. I ordered in advance as well for the Reston event on the 26th.

They promised shipping/tracking information to me and 2 others as soon as they charged us. It's been a week since I've been charged and nothing yet. All of my emails are being ignored now. Before I got responses by the next day...lol
