look to your own brain damage. I said he was enabling piracy by givng link to autopatcher to someone that was obviously a pirate. Learn to read before you talk.

Obviously my foot. Somebody asks how to update XP the easy way.....certainly doesn't make him a pirate, or anything else. Ever heard of a "high horse"? Get off it....

How is this piracy? How is this hurting MS in any way?

That is why I use Autopatcher. 28.8k at home is killing me. Got access to dual T1 lines at work.

In my own defense, I can assure you that I don't pirate Windows. I bought my IBM laptop brand new and therefore have no need to pirate. YOU need to stop making assumptions that everyone who is looking for an efficient way to update, is a pirate.

I was just joking around.

Let's all stand in a circle and laugh at Bluefront and his dial up!

When someone with a user name such as l31itz comes in and asks where to download Microsoft updates from somewhere besides Microsoft, of course we are going to assume piracy. I mean.. come on ... anyone with a user name/handle ending in "LITZ" (and all that other "elite" garbage) is most often 99% associated with piracy in some form.

If you bought your laptop brand new, and it came with a legit copy of Windows XP, then why not get your updates from Microsoft? I would much rather get my legit updates from Microsoft, instead of some other 3rd party source.

Microsoft will give critical updates to unlicensed users anyway. Just enable automatic updating.

My user name has nothing to do with "elite" garbage. Obviously you've been spending too much time playing video games or some other mindless, computer related hobby.

Some need to get their ducks together.. I had the same issue with a Dell Laptop that I purchased. Call MS and tell them what you have and they will assist you. They did help me anyway....

When Dell installed the OS on my laptop they used a CD Key which is different from the one that is on the license sticker on the laptop. I don't know why or if this is the cause of the validation process but right now my OS is installed with one Lic. Key and my sticker on the Laptop has a completely different Lic. Key #. I found this out when MS asked for my Lic. Key.

Call MS

Oh please. So unless we have a handle containing our initals and last name, like yours, we're suspected pirates? I guess that means n0cmonkey is a pirate. I mean, c'mon...he's got a '0' in there! I hear there's job open for homeland security, you're a perfect fit, what with your stereotyping and e-profiling.

In the recent past, ALL BIOS-locked Dell versions of XP used the same Key number. It's different from the Key on the side of the case.

Dell may be changing their system now, but Dells built over the past few years all used BIOS-locked versions of XP that NEVER had to be activated. That was part of the piracy problem. People were stealing the Keys from the sides of the cases and using those Keys to activate OTHER, non-Dell, computers. Ths worked because those Keys were never actually used by the original Dell PC owners.

My copy ( Windows XP Home ) is not BIOS Locked. I installed it on a homebuilt PC just to prove this very same myth to a friend of mine. It installed just fine.
