Same as I'd have to be OK with my Wii breaking after 12. Plus, if it broke that soon out of warranty, I'd have to name it my PS2.

IDK why, but I don't really seem to care about Microsoft extending the warranty. I'm pretty sure the newer systems will be fines. Maybe Microsoft is doing this to stay in competition with Sony.
edit: It was a 3 month warranty before?! NM this then, that's a hot deal, 3 months is nothing for any product this expensive.

If it really does, the xbox will kill the PS3 and Wii out right.

The PS3 seems DOA already, but kill the Wii? I beg to differ.

ok, now its time to buy a 360

Exactly what i'm thinking.

Now if I I could just post my unopened ps3 for sale at cost heh. I might just return it and pickup an xbox.

I know right? Any word on when the 360 with the smaller core & HD-DVD bundle is coming out?

Uh, there is no "smaller core & HD-DVD bundle" coming out.

PS3 is not dead..Jeez its new and missed production dates...but in year..it will be in full swing and the reality is when you add up the cost of all the features..Wifi, 60gb hd, blu-ray etc..$600 is not bad..still more than I would ever pay

I got my Xbox360 as a gift from my office....never would have bought one for myself...eve n$400 seems crazy for what you get ...accessories cost and arm and a leg..not to mention the price for games

I almost wish I had just gotten a giftcard(not for the price of an xbox360 but whatever) and I could have used toward PS3..I really believe it offers alot I just think using Blu -ray was just too costly ...But Sony always has to go the most expensive route and charge an arm and leg for stuff.....

I hope both consoles do well....Xbox360 and PS3...just wish prices were better

PS3 games are cheaper? Warranty extension is good deal. I did buy a two-year warranty that cost $60. If it had been 1-year by microsoft - I would have saved the $60. 90-days was just too short for a $400 electronics purchase with a checkered history.

i can't say for sure about those of us that bought the extended warranty, but i just called to check and see when the warranty ran out, and mine doesn't expire till 2010. and i bought mine on launch night, so i'm assuming they extended those as well.

So if I just got mine for christmas, should I shell out for the 2 year extended warranty? I was planning on doing in anyway.

this is NOT smoking for everyone violated their warranty because Microsoft wanted $100+ to replace a $20 fan, so they bought their own fan.

Um, if Microsoft wanted money to replace a part on the unit, then it's no longer under warranty and the owner didn't "violate" their warranty. Microsoft has been mailing out refund checks anyway.

How much was the extra 2-year warranty. Did MSFT sell it or did you purchase the extra warranty from a retailer?

By the way, I don't care what Microsoft said in the press release, they only did this because they are being sued

I bought it from Overstock.com. I'll have to call them and see how this will work out.
