He got to the point in the install where it said "Press any key to continue" and has spent the last 3 hours looking for the any key.

I chucked.

Microsoft has been outsourcing support to india for awhile, why would the zune make any difference?

What kind of problems are you having with your install?

If you guys are suggesting that the problem exists between chair and desktop, it's not.

Look on Zune community forums...a lot of people are having the same error.

The software will copy but then delete itself and thus not complete installation.

Gives me a pointless 0x80070643 error and a support link that's defunc.

And what's frustrating is that the support personnel keeps repeating the same thing as if he cant understand English.

Nope, not saying that. I'm saying it's an ID10T error.

Try turning off System Restore, install the Zune software, and then turn System Restore back on.

To turn off System Restore on Vista - Click the Windows button, then right click on Computer and click Properties. On the left column click Advanced Settings. Then click the System Protection tab. Uncheck everything there then click apply.

I got it installed, but I'm not all that impressed. The sort by artist feature on the playlists in the Zune software isn't working right, and I see things like "Weird Al" tunes listed under Cake. Odd.

I also have a bunch of duplicate songs on my Zune now, which I imagine was caused by the same bug.

The wireless sync seems pretty useless as well... It took 3 minutes to sync ONE song over an 802.11b WiFi connection.

Besides the number, what does the actual error message say?

Yes. I've gone through all the troubleshooting websites suggest and am on the phone with Zune TS for the past hour and half. God they can be so incompetent sometimes.
