Please note that the reader, not surprisingly, is very Microsoft software specific and only works with 32-bit Windows.

this is a great deal!
i got the driver for Vista so i can login with my fingers.
however, i still cant login websites using IE with the scanner. i was able to with XP though

I might go for this. $10 ain't bad, and I've wanted to try out the fingerprint reader stuff.

Alas, Office Depot doesn't seem to have it in stock near where I live or work, and they don't seem to do the online sales thing. Lame.

They are licensing this from DigitalPersona, whom I hold a grudge against for this exact reason. I once bought the U.Are.U scanner with software back in 2000 when these things were expensive. At the time there were no Win2K drivers, but many things lacked 2k drivers at release. By the time XP was released, still no drivers.

After several months, the fine folks at DigitalPersona decided that upgrading to a Win2K/XP would require "new software" and that no standalone driver would be offered. The software? $150. I contacted them to ask why drivers were worth so much, and they told me that there was a significant redevelopment effort.

Bottom line, I don't want anything to do with hardware company that has no commitment to future support. I hope they choke.

Did you mean price match it at Circuit City to $9.99?

CC price match policy states that they will give you 10% of the difference. Since the difference is $40 you final price at CC is $9.99 - $4.00 = $5.99.

The product box lists IE as the only supported browser. For Firefox you may want to give this extension a shot.
