Ok, I am using DSL line and I am splitting the line using microsoft ICS. My main computer has 2 network cards which the first card connects with the dsl modem, the 2nd connected to a hub for conneciton sharing.. the problem is.... both computers can found each other on LAN even can transfer files between them but the client computer can't get internet connections...even though the main computer has dsl connections working and it can access to the client's hd, but it seems no matter what I do, ICS won't work for some reasons....this is not an easy problem cuz I've been asking many technical supports about this situation but all they suggest I've did it before. The weird thing is that...ICS was working before I formmated my main computer, I have made all the settings as what I've done before but it just won't work for some reasons....please help

I take it your hub doesn't have an uplink port available so you wouldn't need to bother with 2 nics in your computer?
You're gonna have to give us some more info
what kind of nics you using, what kind of hub, what version of windows, etc etc. We need everything except your mother's maiden name. That may come later though..

Server using win98se, 2 PCI network cards with indivual IRQ
Client using winME, 1 ISA network card with indivdual IRQ also
HUB SMC 4 port with uplink but I am not plugging it onto the uplink port for sharing.

My Network Neigborhood Config:

Client for Microsoft Networks
Dial-Up Adapter
Dial-Up Adapter #2(VPN Support)
Internet connection Sharing
iVasin PoET Adapter
Linksys LNE 100tx Fast Ethernet Adapeter(LNE100TX v4)
Micorsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
NETEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
Internet Connection Sharing(protocol)->Internet Connection Sharing
Internet Connection Sharing(protocol)->Linksys LNE 100tx FastEthernet Adapeter(LNE100TX v4)
Internet Connection Sharing(protocol)->NETEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
IPX/SPX->NETEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
NDISWAN->iVastion PoET Adapter
NDISWAN->Micorsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
TCP/IP(Home)->NETEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
TCP/IP(Shared)>Linksys LNE 100tx Fast Ethernet Adapeter(LNE100TX v4)
TCP/IP->Dial-Up Adapter
TCP/IP->Dial-Up Adapter#2(VPN Support)

LAN is working fine but client can't get internet connection from server, it can even ping the server but no internet addresses, if you need my route print I can post it also.thx

when using ICS you don't need uplink port, its just for expanding the network, you just need to plug it to one of the ports for ICS....

but why have an extra nic in your computer when you don't need it? Why not save the IRQ and possible confusion by Windows and just use the uplink port...?

I'm asking why you have 2 networks cards in one computer when you can take one out and plug the modem into your hub

Is your hub a SMC 7004BR with a Wan port on the back? If it is what yzzim is saying is to unplug your dsl from the network card and plug into the Wan port of the router. The router will take care of all the sharing of 2 computers not to mention act as a hardware firewall.

A hub will work too...I've got my computer on a Linksys 5port hub with uplink and my modem is plugged into the uplink, my tower is plugged into port 2, and my laptop is plugged into port 3. They share the connection that way.

give it a try and see what happens
the Uplink and port 1 are probably shared, so you'll have to plug one computer into Port 2 and another into Port 3. You can use both Uplink and port 1 at the same time.

That's only if they're shared though

actually I don't think that will work......cuz if a hub can split connection by itself just like router....why people need an expensive router for?? Im using the cheap way that I split connections with ICS using my server and share it thru a hub...that requires 2 network cards, and it does work before....but after I formatted my server althought I set everything exactly the same.. it doesn't work anymore. If I really want to I would buy a router and solve the problem but since I have a hub and it did work before so I really want to solve this problem...

Ok, we'll just forget about the fact that I told you I'm using that exact setup right now and it's running flawlessly...

so you mean you can have more than 1 computers access to the internet AT THE SAME TIME by just plugging it on the uplink to split? Althought I don't think that will work but still I'll give it a try...thanks for the suggestion anyways.

I didn't see an OS description. win2k would take care of DHCP and NAT and set up the box as server. Anyway, try from a DOS prompt typing ipconfig /all See what IP address you have. You may need to invoke ip release and IP renew to reset ip addresses. Or did you set them up static? If so,make sure you have the same subnet mask and point the DNS to the IP address of your ethernet card that goes to the modem.

I hope I said that right.

On the client machine enter in the default gateway as 192.168.0.1
And do the same for the DNS

you cannot just use the uplink port like someone above suggested. there will be no proxy system then and you will not be able to do ics. the person above must be confused ... they probably are getting multiple ips and CAN do what they are saying because they aren't splitting one connection.
