Hey, I've got an Intellieye Explorer that I used with the USB->PS/2 converter because I had Windows NT 4.0 instaled. Then I upgraded to Windows 2000, but left the mouse on the PS/2 connector still. I also had Windows 98se installed with the mouse on the PS/2 connector.

I noticed however that when I shut the machine off, the red light would stay on and would never go off. My brother also has the same mouse, and his is plugged into the USB port because he was always using Win98se, and his mouse went off when the computer was off..

To that end, I removed the converter and plugged the mouse directly into the USB port. When I rebooted into both WIndows 2000 Professional and Windows 98se, they recognized the fact that the USB port had a mouse and the PS/2 port was missing a mouse and configured things appropriately.

Now, my mouse does go off when the computer is off. However, I've got an issue of the mouse 'timing out' after a few seconds of non-use. So, I was on a webpage reading something and didn't move the mouse for about 1 min or so, when I was ready to either scroll the page(using the wheel) or move the mouse around, the pointer would be stuck for a few seconds and then it would come to life and do as I instructed.

I can only describe this as the USB port shutting down for inactivity and then powering on again when it sensed activity. This is further proved by the fact that if I keep moving the mouse around and don't stop at all, then it; obviously, stays on and functioning.

I've searching these and other forums and most, if not all, of the posters have issues with the sluggish movement of the cursor, unprecise pointing, or something else. But no delay/freeze like me..

One thing I can think of is if re-install W2K or Win98se with the USB mouse plugged into the USB port from the beginning, this would not happen...

But short of that, are there anything that I can try to solve this??? Regards

This sounds Motherboard/Chipset related. Give us more details on the system hardware and Bios level. I have Abit BM6 boards that would leave the mouse light and keyboard lights on with the system shut-down, until they came up with a new Bios level that solved the problem. That's what makes me think it could be chipset related. If it's a kt133 board, all bets are off on anything USB related.

This is a Gigabyte GA-6BXD dual-intel with the 440BX chipset.

The BIOS is the latest F3 for this MB from Gigabyte.

This being a very old chipset(in Comptuer terms) so that might be an issue here..I'll probably try to do a quick fresh Win98 install and see what happens..Regards
