i was at the walmart in chicago (hodgkins, il) and saw several of these on a clearance rack for $29.50. there were at least 7-10 left. most likely ymmv. good luck.
In my opinion, the casing on V2 is far superior to V3. I have been unable to find any V2's on the shelves anywhere for months... just V3's. So I reluctantly picked one up. Still a great mouse, I just liked the feel of the V2 better.
Performance of both models is fantastic. I used V2 for more than a year with all sorts of fast-action games, and never had any problems at all. Use the USB connection rather than the PS2 adapter.
If it breaks, you will get the v3.0 model no matter which one you have. The difference is mainly the v2.0 has nice large side clickers whereas the 3.0 has quite smaller clickers. It isn't a big deal as I use both versions on a daily basis. I do like the bigger buttons but the 2.0 is no longer available for new purchase. I believe the shape of the 3.0 is slightly different also.
biggest difference btw v2 and v3 is that v3 have 6000dpi .. or something like that.. which result in unbelievable fast responce that you can't get with v2
"try moving really fast, you'll see what i mean" ..
but damn it, the v2 ones didn't have a cheap thumb button feel.. the v3's seem like they'll break (the ones on display i've seen tend to get stuck very easily).
The wireless one is real nice.. but it's wireless.. i tried one, didn't like it (dunno if it was a fluke or not.. last one there, and the box looked a little beat up, but it was $50).
Walmart seems to be clearing out alot of stuff. They had the microsoft internet keyboard for $15 and I also picked up 2 Motorola T6200 2-way radios for $30 each.
They also had a wireless explorer for $44.
Went to three different Walmarts and they all had different items on clearance.
I have to agree. I have the v2 at work and the v3 at home. My wife was NOT happy when I switched out the v2 at home for the v3 (I wanted the higher refresh rate for FPS games) and brought the v2 to work.
I prefer the v2 with the larger side buttons, much easier to use for double-clicking...
