They could easily cater to both desktop users and tablet users by allowing desktops users to choose which interface they would like to use. It can't be that difficult. Have a check box at first boot, then put the damn start menu code back in. It's incredibly idiotic not to allow this.
Exactly.
I'd rather they remove as much legacy code as possible to make win8 as lightweight as possible.... to those that want it let them muck up windows and put that code back in themselves. Don't force it on the majority who will just use the new start screen.
How much code do you think that 'start menu' has ..
It does organize things better, and therefore increase productivity,
you can not say that removing it for the sake of having windows more lightweight.
having it optional, would only cost like a few extra mega bytes on the harddrive.
Adding any 3rd party application to have a start menu is just *ucking up the computer, no one like to add spam apps to windows.
saying "the majority who will just use the start screen" is not right ..
many of the people that are ok with the start screen, as you see from this forums, will try to make the best of a bad sitiuation by trying as much as possible to ignore it, and work around it, not "USE IT".
