I've heard that Walmart was going to offer Lindows on thier PC's.

i thought it was more of a marketing scam. The customer comes back the next day :"this won't run X"
Walmartian:"well, X is a windows program, your running Lindows, could i offer you windows XP home edition, just 199!!"

xtra sales. welp, i also see a 199 pc at walmart as a possibility . . . . . . it costs less than my gfx card!! a machine that cheap will prolly be running older AMD cpu, also. . . a blow to MS AND Intel . .. heh . ... heh . . . . well, im a gamer so its windows for me till linux gets game makers to publish all the newest titles for them . . ..

I would hardly say dead, but that is interesting! Linux needs moree game ports though as well better support from hardware manufacurers. Also it needs to be more user friendly in my opinion to tackle MS.

MS makes more money in a single day of Windows sales than the entire Linux market does in a full year. Dead, okay.... And if the government wasnt on MS's back MS could make an offer the Lindows guys couldnt refuse...

Saying Microsoft is dead has been going on for years, even since linux kernel days of 1.1.x. Face it, people aren't going to use a non-Win32 OS for the desktop for many years to come. Also, the install base of Win32 is so large, they'll be able to sustain themselves for a while.

The ONLY OS, that will really make a dent in Win32 will be OSX. As much as I don't like paying for Apple's inflated prices, Apple will probably release an x86 version of OSX and that release will definitely hurt MS where it counts. Linux has come a long ways, but lets face it -- there are far more people unwilling to learn a new OS, let alone a "unix-like" OS that WILL require changes made on the cli. If someone can really take linux and strap OSX's interface, error handling, etc on top of linux, then we'll have an even better contender. Lindows is merely a toy right now, maybe a few years of revisions will make it 1/10th of what OSX is.
