Read the information about Woot.

They are a closeout store, they carry 1 product per day until they are either a) sold out or b) it becomes Midnight. At midnight they post a new product Monday - Friday. (CST)

So this is new in box with everything, right? I'd love to get one, as I jumped on the deal for the MS Wireless card posted earlier.

I heard this router has issues with port forwarding and some of the other advanced features. Anyone care to elaborate/debunk?

woot still has this in stock. i hope this sends a clear signal to them that they should knock the prices back down, because $35 shipped for this router is warm, not hot. at times, the daily product can be out of stock within minutes.

Kindly Substance12,

I'd jumped on the deal for this router at Target a while back. For a home user, it probably is an OK router. Port forwarding does work. The built in 'firewall' in the router is hard coded to be on.

The big problem I had with it - and the reason for an eventual return - was that the traffic caused by a certain P2P program with forwarded ports (or perhaps numerous SYN attacks associated with that) will cause the router to freeze. The lights on the router would stay on and blink as normal, but all traffic through LAN and WAN ports went nowhere. Router first looses DHCP, then DNS, then couldn't be pinged. The only way I'd found to get it working again was to power cycle it. (When eMule was running, the router would freeze every 5-12 hours.) Happened with two different MN-700s, with two or three firmware versions. (Including the latest, too. ) Every now and then, someone will post about it on MS.public.broadband.hardware... an MS person asked some questions once, but never quite posted a reply.

Security settings are set in stone, though, except for the option to allow ICMP packets or to enable a DMZ.

If you don't use emule, on the other hand, it is a fine router, I think.

HTH!

Andy

No, it's refurb, read the product description on Woot!.

OP, could you please add that to the title?

I believe that there is a firmware update available from MS for this router, grooveman, were you using the stock firmware or the upgraded version?

I'm curious if this can be placed into "infrastructure client AP mode", and act as an ethernet-bridges WiFi client NIC, with another router/AP? That would be nice, because my LinkSys USB WiFi NIC won't support Win98se.

I've had great luck with the Microsoft wireless routers. They have better range than equivalent products from Belkin, Netgear, SMC, and D-Link -- MS is the best out of that bunch. The configuration is also a breeze.

I have 2 of these routers and like it quite a bit

it's easy to setup/use and I've never had an issue with it

I use overnet/ed2k quite a bit and there are no issues with that either
