I remember this post a long time ago and people were abusing it. But now I find that my explorer mous is totally on the fritz, it skips all the time and it can't make intricate movements. I thought the optical stuff was suppose to get rid of this B.S.

I am definitely going to be faxing in my optical mouse.

I had an explorer 3.0 that Microsoft gave away in a Dell promotion and it died in less than a year and after numerous attempts, no replacement. The works, letters, faxes, calls, all failed. Threw it away and got a Logitech MX 700, best thing I ever did. If you can find a choice avoid the beast!

How would they tell?

Just a thought...

I'm not going to totally freak on you like alot of people would, but ill tell you why this is a bad idea:

You are not just ripping off MS, but you are ripping off the person who buys the mouse you return. Down the road when they try to get warranty service they are not goign to get it because they serial number has been stolen.

fine fine, so how would they find out if I sent them multiple faxes of the same mouse or a mouse that was still working perfectly?

I have one of the old Intellimouse w/intelliEye 1.0 mice with the shiny eggshell finish and the cord is loose or shorting out right at the spot where it goes into the actual mouse. Do you guys think they will give me a replacement for this?

People need to stop scamming MS or Logitech because it'll ruin everything for those of us who ACTUALLY need the warranty service.

Can't imagine why it would have as it was purchased from Circuit City I believe (possibly Best Buy but it was well over a year ago so I don't recall for certain).

You got a.... free mouse. When it broke, they wouldn't spend extra money on shipping and cost of replacement mouse to replace it...?!?!? How dare they assume they don't have any obgligation to you when you spent $0.00 with them?

The old intellimouse explorer v1.0 has a lifetime warranty. That's one of the reasons I forked over $60+ for it when it came out.

What's the problem with the blue optical mice? I was thinking about getting one. And please don't scam on this, Microsoft may not always be so nice but when a company actually delivers on a good customer service offer, do we really have to shaft them back into not supporting it anymore.

Quick note from when this came up a long time ago: OEM mice are not covered by this. If it says "dell" or "gateway" on the top, which will mean it has "OEM" in the serial number, don't waste your time.

I had a trackman optical that was doing double clicks on me. Got the replacement pretty quick, the brand new one they sent me works great... I currently have the old one sitting in my desk drawer for a backup...

Yes please don't abuse this... I just got a wireless intellimouse explorer 2.0, and I'd like to be able to get it easily replaced when it dies (I'm sure it will, I wear out input devices pretty quickly).., and not have to deal with calling microsoft...

Do you know if you have to scan the back of a keyboard or something? Can you just give them the keyboard's serial ID?
