The phone number that is given at the beginning:

"If you call Microsoft Supplemental Parts (800-360-7561 toll free USA & Canada) they will give you a fax (716-447-7330). All you have to do is fax them the following:"

"Is not in service...." Is the fax number still in service?

Anyone know how to find the correct number I've a MS Cordless Wheelmouse that never worked...and I never got around to trying to get it fixed....

Thanks

no, they won't accept OEMS

Can't speak for the older MS mice, but the newer OEM MS mice show the letters "OEM" as part of the serial # on the bottom of the mouse. That's one of the reasons MS wants to see a scan of the bottom of your mouse when you submit your request.

My IntelliMouse3.0 just crapped out, thanks to this thread my replacement is on the way
I faxed the info and called the number just in case. The service rep told me that calling is not necessary.
She did ask for a scan of the box top too, but it was optional and they confirmed my order without the box top scan.

I also went to the MS website and the sevice page mentions hardware, not just mice. I'm thinking I can also get my (crapped out) MS keyboard replaced too?

I did this last year with my old intelli 1.0 mouse. I never had to fax anything they just let me read the number off the bottom when I called the number. Anyways first they for some reason sent me TWO optical wheel man mice. which I was very surprised about, but it was the wrong mouse so I called them back and told them they had sent me the wrong type of mouse and the lady was very apologetic about it and had them send me ANOTHER intelli mouse and didn't even care about the other mice I had received. wow 3 new mice for a skipping old one good deal I felt kinda bad though oh well....

I've never had a problem with Microsoft's replacement policy for mice. Let me tell you a story...

My Intellimouse Optical died (took out the PS/2 port with it ) and I called them up to get a new one. Well I wade through the menus, talk to a rep, she says she'll send it out and have a nice day. A few weeks later I get my Microsoft package, except they sent me an Intellimouse Explorer instead. Sure, still an optical, higher-priced, but the problem is that I have small, feminine, delicate hands that need something as small as the Optical. So I call them up again, say I just got this Intellimouse Explorer instead of an Optical. They tell me, "oh, well that's the more expensive model," I say, "that's fine, but I don't like it. Can you send out the right one now or do you have to wait until you get the other one shipped back to you?" Then the rep tells me (this is the good part) "don't worry about it, just keep the other one. We're sorry for the mix-up."

So I got a free mouse out of the deal, and got my old one replaced. I still have the old one as well; all it needs is a new cable and it should theoretically work.

I totally understand the photocopying part by the way. I bet it came about because some unscrupulous types went to a public library or a school or something and wrote down all the serial numbers, then went home and used them all to get free mice. Stealing from schoolchildren... have they no heart?

Will this work with the $9.99/$4.99/FAR Basic Optical Mouse that OM had for the past month? The one I have has the pointer occasionally jumping all over the place. Or would I likely end up with another of the same with the same problem?

If there's a cheaper model you can request they send you that instead. Sometimes the cheaper ones are the better ones.

Got my Intellimouse Explorer V3 on Friday.

A very noticeable improvement over my old V1.

I had an Intellimouse optical from many years ago that went dead. It worked for two months I think and now the wire always comes loose. I never did get it replaced because they stopped making it. I finally through it out recently but I have known about this replacement policy for years. Anyway, another problem I have had with past mice is that the buttons start acting weird like you press the button and hold it although the mouse registers you let go of it. Also, it clicks twice etc. It makes highlighting a real pain. Anyway, this started to happen to my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0a a month ago and though I was going to have to buy a new mouse for another $50 or so. To make a long story short, I just blew really hard underneith the affected button a few times and now everything works well again. Just though I'd mention that because I bought at least 2 extra mice in the last few years because of this very problem.

I just tried...connected to the number but I sat in "transmitting" for almost 15 minutes (the file wasn't even that big). Hung up soon after...wasn't going to spend more than the thing is worth in sending out a fax request.

I called in already and talked to a supervisor and just told him how great this service was and how it made me a loyal customer knowing that I will be purchasing microsoft keyboards and mice from now on because of the solid warranty and support. Everyone when you call in and they send you a replacement, ask for the supervisor or someone in charge so you can give your praise so microsoft can continue providing this great program. A little goes a long wayl

thanks for the repost, I was going to search for this old thread in the near future but haven't gotten around to it yet. I've got an optical "blue" I need to replace.

I always thought the blues were really cool, but I head that blue lasers don't track as well. I'm sure they are just fine for desktop use but I do alot of gaming.

How would they tell?

Just a thought...

If you are going to do that, why not save yourself time and just steal it from the store?
OR... you could gain some character and acually BUY the mouse, and know that if it goes bad, Microsoft will replace it at no cost to you.

This should be an easy decision.

Yeah, it really should be.

On that note, if any decides to suggest fraud in this thread anymore i'll happily report it to the mods.

I didn't realize the OEM restriction. The CS just told me that mine does not qualify. I just got it from a friend and it actually never worked for me. I saw on the MS website that it could be a software issue. Anybody has an idea how test the mouse?
