This is through MS's "Home Use" policy. https://hup.microsoft.com/

Only hot if your employer has such an agreement with MS, obviously. You need a code provided by your employer.

You can also get Project 2003 through the program for $20.

Was the e-mail a MS generated e-mail or one sent by your company? Just wondering if you had a sample of what it looks like.

I know we have a licensing agreement with MS, but I don't know how to go about finding out how to get on this deal. Even one of the IT guys says he hasnt heard about it.

Same question. We also have a licensing agreement with MS, but my employer doesn't typically send any sort of solicitation like this unless you ask very specifically.

Well, damn! $20 is overpriced now, huh? Cold deal, that bug makes the whole suite worth about $3!!

It was a company e-mail.

MS is offering both XP and 2k3 versions of office for $20.

e-mail:

Looking to get a copy of Microsoft Office or Project for your Home Computer? As an LM employee with one of these products installed on your desktop at work, you can now receive these titles for a minimal price under a new program offered by Microsoft in partnership with Strategic Sourcing Solutions and EIS, the Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP).

To reap the benefits, you must be the licensed user of a product which is covered by our MS Desktop Enterprise Agreement. You will be limited under the program to a single copy of each software package for which you have an eligible license at work. You may continue using this HUP software while you are under employment with LM and as long as the software you use at work is covered by an Enterprise Agreement. When Microsoft releases a new version of the application, you will be eligible to purchase a new copy of any applications you have already purchased.

LOL, just thought I'd share. I've never used that function. University of Iowa students/staff can get the Office 2003 Pro software for $8 . . . might be close to the same deal at other schools.

I can vouch that this is valid for any GM (as well as Delphi Corp.) salaried employee.

I can also vouch that it's already backordered like a SOAB ... :disgust:

I picked mine up!

I am a civil service engineer for an AirForce Base. We got this offer a while back and I picked a copy up. I am still waiting for it to show up. This really shouldn't be in the Hot Deals Forum... it's more of a Brag & Moan. The people that are eligble for this will get HUP account information from their employer.

I've seen posts about deals for college students. I figured a deal for those out of college and in the work force also fit.

usuee .... It was sent out to MS2 last week. You might want to ask your local EIS people.

dang, just checked mine .... backordered.

Oh well. I guess it gets here when it gets here.

I think they should just give me a coupon for a free copy, so I can pick it up myself.

Any company paying for "Microsoft® Volume Licensing Software Assurance" is paying enough that all their employees should be able to use it on any machine they own FOR FREE. That program is not cheap. MS made a lot of people angry when they introduced it, as many customers had to pay more then they were paying before the licensing overhaul.

A deal on any product that requires activation is not really a deal! I hate activation and big brother looking over my shoulder.

Worth less I'd say. Office 2003 is actually a virus.

What a shocker, Lindows.com talking about how MS Office is a virus. Next will you link to a Slashdot article saying Bill Gates is the devil? Not that I disagree with some of the points in that article, but this is the sort of thing you would expect from a bitter competitor and I'm sure they've done a fine job at embellishing every point.

I'm not a bitter competitor and use office '97, 2K all the time, yet feel the same way. The competition now has products fully capable of "office" functions, if Microsoft wants regular payments from it's customers it had better start listening to them. Which customers asked to have changes made to their systems without their consent or have file formats that aren't backwards compatible, often for no good reason?

I wouldn't use this if they PAID me $20.
