This would most likely be the 'Wheelmouse' as he posted, which has 2 regular buttons on top and a scrolling wheel for the third.

FOLKS ..
Let's get a few things clear here

Microsoft makes 3 optical mice ...

Intellimouse Explorer-
SILVER, big , bulky , has 2 regular buttons and 2 extra ones on left side of mouse
Intellimouse-
Off-white, 2 regular buttons, and 2 extra buttons located 1 on either side of mouse
Wheelmouse-
Off-white, 2 regular buttons and that's all

Please stop getting people's hopes up by calling mice Intellimouse Optical when they only have 2 buttons. If the mouse does not have 2 EXTRA buttons on the sides, then it is the WHEELMOUSE, not Intellimouse.

Umm , that's not even an optical one ? And you can get a non-optical intellimouse for cheaper than that. I paid 15 for mine at a show.

Okay , once again to be clear.

While this is a laser mouse, this is not the Intellimouse optical.
This is an intellimouse with intellieye (actually an older product I believe). My guess would be this is the older laser technology that everyone keeps complaining about.
The INTELLIMOUSE OPTICAL says the exact name right on the package. This is not it. The INTELLIMOUSE OPTICAL does NOT look like the standard Intellimouse with ball. And it has 4 buttons, not 2. That is why they charge 20 bucks more for it than the WHEELMOUSE OPTICAL. Check out the MS website and read up.

I bought Wheel Mouse Optical days ago at OD. I suggest you guys here do not buy this model because:

1. The feel of the wheel is not as good as the old models. The wheel wobbles a little horizontally in the case. Apparently Microsoft wants to cut the production cost.

2. I had problems installing the IntelliPoint and spent several hours to figure out that I had to install the software in SAFE MODE.

I also bought a Linksys NIC at OD and installed on my emachines. After installing the mouse and the NIC, I experienced problems with Energy Saving. System hang up after returning from stand-by. However, I did not know if it is because of the Wheel Mouse Optical or NIC.

I bought one of these a few months ago, and recently smashed it on my basement floor for it's inability to work properly.... =) It worked really well for a while, and then suddenly the laser would flicker on and off and not only cause it to randomly not work, but also make my system throw a fit. This was with both USB and Mouse ports. So to warn you. I'm back on my Logitech 'ball' mouse, and much happier now.. ~_^

Wow! Don't smash it! Call Microsoft, they will send you a NEW one for free and you can keep your old one. I did this and I took the old mouse, cut 8-12 inches off the thing, take apart mouse, unplug the cord from inside, cut some off, solder the plug back on, viola, mouse works. They used some cheap wire in the cord that tends to break where it enters the mouse.

Anyway, give them a call and you'll get the same mouse or a better one!
