Though it is not known why specifically at this point, except that MS wishes to work on the service pack for the software, the Redmond Giant pulled the download for Internet Explorer version 5.5. Officials told ZDNet that the service pack will neither add new features or update any software bugs, but that they realized they neede to work on specific areas of the program. They also told ZDNet that the removal has nothing to do with recent Web site outages at the company. Stay tuned as more information comes in.

bonkers325,
Funny that you mention the IE 5.5 issue. I have IE 5.5 SP1 on both Win2K and WinME builds. And, on both builds I see the same problems, namely...disappearing status bar on the bottom. Other than that, they seem to run ok. Have you seen any problems?

I have IE 5.5 and SP1 installed on two computers and both are functioning normally. I have seen no problems and IE or OE never crashes on my computers.

Hard to figure why some of you are having so many problems with IE/OE 5.5 SP1.

In our local computer club we have about 40 installations of IE/OE 5.5 SP1 and no one is having any problems with it.

Just checked the MS Windows update site and IE 5.5 is still being offered as an upgrade. Is a certain person making up stories again?

Since the Denial of service attack last Wednesday morning I have noticed that IE 5.5 and Directx 8 have been removed from the Windows update site in Win2k and Win98 but are still availble for download from the public Ms fttp site, but they are still offering the security patches for IE 5.5 on the Win update site.
