I just came back from the Microsoft event "The New Efficency" for Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 and I was given a discount code for 'Technet Plus!'.

TMSAM03

Right now the discount is 25%, I was told that discount would increase after November 1, but the presenter did not have a firm number other than it would be higher than 25%.
How much higher, I have no idea.

If you can't wait, get it now, if you can wait a few days then you might do better.

Have fun!

EDIT: Engineer also has a code (TNWIN7L) that is good for 28% off.
Thanks Engineer!

that code's been around a while. I think changing the 3 to a 4 is valid as well. At least it used to be. Ends up being $261.75. I still kick my own ass for not jumping on the $99.

They didn't mention anything about technet at the TNE even I just got home from. Different folks, different presentations I guess.

It seems that the code is attached to the presenter, and they go in and out of validity.
There are other codes, but they all seem to have the same discount.
It wasn't announced, I had to ask after the presentation.

Are you from the San Diego area '2020?

Dog freaking gone it, I just signed up a few days ago for the $285ish price ($261 + tax since I'm in WA). I have watched these codes for a while but waited since I knew a steeper discount might be available. Then win 7 had to launch and I jumped...

Maybe they will refund me the difference... ha ha

Man, I have been watching for a while. Hopefully it goes up more than just to 26%

I went to the one in DC (well, Reston, close enough). The microsoft guy kept falling asleep during the amd presentations. Can't say I blamed him.

It changes from time to time, I think this was the price I paid but got an extra 3months or something promotion. Last year was even better though, I think it was $1xx for the first year.

If it's a really nice discount, and you already have a subscription, I understand that you don't have to wait until the last minute you can buy it now and it'll auto-extend by 1yr your expiration... I have to confirm though, and I will if it's a great deal on 11/01.

HMMM. If the discount is good enough at 11/01, I might jump on it and return or re-sell my unopened Win7 HP preorders...

Hmmm... if it's a steep enough discount I might have to see about just extending mine by another year. The odd part is I bought my sub a week ago and my expiration data still says 1/1/1900... seems very strange. This was the same date it gave me when I signed up for that "free" pilot program technet that was canceled a few days later by MS.

Is Windows 7 up on MSDN yet? I haven't been paying attention, I will get the technet subscription when it is confirmed.

Windows 7 has been available on technet for months now. It was RTM for a while now it's has all the flavors like starter, home basic, home premium, professional, and ultimate.

Technet Plus is technically meant only for IT Professionals to evaluate and train on new OS and core technologies. The license is valid only for the computers belonging to the user, and only if he/she is not using the computer in an actual production environment, eg. regular business/home use.

To answer your question here is the link for available products Subscriber Downloads.

Thanks.

How many keys for a particular OS can be obtained? I seem to recall 5 per or total or something like that.

Was the RTM that was released a few months ago the same as the Ultimate that's available now?

Enterprise has a volume license, that's why it's just 1.

Also that 10 limit is VERY VERY flexible. I've installed Windows XP on about 20 computers with no issue. Online activation won't work, but calling the phone number given works fine.

Does anyone have any idea, or was there any indication given on when these codes expire?

So far I've seen tmsam03, tmsam04 and tmsam10; all give the same 25% discount. I guess there would be more simply by changing the numbers, but it would be nice to know when these particular ones expire.
