So do we really have no better discount? I picked up a virus last nite which is a good excuse to just blow out xp64 and finally make the jump to DX10/11

I was tired of waiting and jumped at $261. It was worth it to me since I needed 5 copies of win 7 just for my own PC's.

Might jump on this. Been waiting since allowing mine to lapse and I was kicking myself for not renewing when I could have renewed for a little over $100.

Wow, that's the best renewal offer I've heard of so far. $199 was the lowest I've heard for a renewal this year.

I would not doubt that they are related to a TechNet sub. The keys in the regular TechNet subscription are retail keys. They are not OEM or VLK. It's disappointing to see them being resold for profit on eBay. I would really hate for MS to shut the program down due to this happening. I have been a hapy TechNet subscriber for 2 years now. I use it for its delegated purpose which is in a test environment, non-production.

If you use it in an inappropriate manner than the TOS allows, it's still not "legit".

What will happen is that you buy a key on ebay, pay via PayPal... Then ebay "removes" the item for violations.
They send you a kind email explaining the item was "removed" and that if you have already paid the seller, you need to contact them for a refund.

Good Luck with that!

I've been stung by ebay on items being "removed" AFTER I paid for them.
No they weren't some crazy .99 cent Windows 7 keys.

I don't see why anyone would renew. If you sign up and create an new account, you get all new keys for all products. What is the advantage of simply renewing?

I should subscribe, but even the $260ish price seems high when I think about people snagging it for $99 last year.

so basically, you feel you can do whatever you want no matter what their tos or eula says? good luck with that.

Not at all. I think you are getting too wrapped up in whatever definition you ascribed to what I said, and then you build upon a faulty assumption on your part about something I never said again.

The subscriptions are per year.

so if you sign up and install applications/OS whatever do they expire one the subscription ends?

Come 1 year, will you get a message to the effect of
"Sorry to continue to use this program you must sign-up for another year of technet"?

No, they are good forever and do not expire. Just make sure you get and download all of the keys you are entitled to during that year as you will not be able to access them after your subscription expires.

Jimbo the thing is they do expire per se. They are not supposed to be used past that one year. If you continue to do so you're in direct conflict of the EULA. Sure if you continue to use it you will be able to but in reality, if you can afford it, you should renew your TechNet sub. That's what I did. On top of that, you continue to get access to newly released software.

i find it hard to feel morally plagued when I break a EULA, notoriously the most unbelievably ridiculous stretches of text created by modern man...

if microsoft wants the key to last a year, make it last a year.
