now i want to know which anandtech person it was who asked me and my friends outside the student union if they would sell their software for 20 bucks... pfffft... 2 hours of listening to that guy is worth more than 20 bucks

I was at the Fullerton one.

Got myself the same as the other peopl.

I've got two questions to ask guys:
1. did you have any problem installing the .Net? I have problem on disc 4 cause my Norton detect the malicious script. I ok it and it went fine but when I open the .Net it detects another malicious script devenv.exe.

Does anybody have the same problem like me or it's just me?

2. what's the different between the academic version with the regular version one? I know the academic one only has the Visual Basic, C++ and C#. What about the retail one? thanks

<< didnt have my student id with me in seattle at UW... they wouldnt let me even listen to the speakers... let alone get a copy of vis.net
:|
>>

Wow...I got into the NY one without my ID. After I explained to them that none of the info I saw on the page or in the email they sent did not specify an ID, the one lady asked "Are you gonna give me a hard time?" I said no and she let me in.

Update NAV if you haven't already. The newer updates allow you to "always authorize" the script so that way you won't have to keep clicking OK whenever you start a new instance of VS.NET.

Academic = Professional except the academic has some features that are useful to professors and students. I don't know the exact details but one of the features makes it easier for the teacher to create assignments or something. But basically, Academic = Professional.

<< Bump for fullerton phoolz. I want to see more of you post so i know who my competition is at best buy and staples.
>>

Well, I try to go down to the staples and best buy on imperial hwy. I started working in fullerton recently and I must say the staples in LA are way better than the one in fullerton as far as PMs etc is concerned. In fact, I have lodged a complaint against the manager of the fullerton staples store since he just consistently denies all my PMs when the stores is LA have no problems with the same PMs. I have a message from the district manager on my answering machine regarding my complaint. Lets see how it goes!

I went to UCLA and Fullerton.. Mainly because my friends wanted to go and one of my other friends needed a VS.NET. But fullerton's presentation was incredibly dry and boring compared to the peresenter at UCLA. He left out all the cool stuff and did i mention he was dry and boring. Maybe it was cuz it was the second time through, but I thinkt he UCLA presenter was a lot more enthusiastic and humurous.

Oh yea, someone offered me 20 bucks for my copy of vs.net. Did he ask anyone else?

Finally got home from the one in Austin. Food was good (meatballs, quesadillas, buffalo wings, chicken strips) and band was pretty good (they did the themes from "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Muppet Show" when people were going up to get their raffle items, haha). Got my goody bag with VS.NET, WinXP Pro, a t-shirt, a notepad, pen, highlighter, and these mints in a cool popup tin cylinder. Presentation was ok, it showed some of the new features in VS.NET which was pretty interesting.

Oh, and I visited the world's most disgusting restroom when I was driving back up I-35 from Austin to Dallas. It's a Chevron in Waco where I had to stop and get gas. Their restroom is located on the outside of the building and when I went in, it was all dark with a slight blue-ish tinge, really spooky. I tried the light switch but it turned out it was just the light being really dim, and then the stench hit me. Both the toilet and urinal was overflowed with some DARK liquid and there was some leakage flowing along the wall. I held my breath, did my business as quick as I could in the urinal (overflowing it even more) and ran for daylight. That place is GROSS, I pity the foo who has to clean it.

here's my report for the george mason event.

music is so so...
food sucks mostly... why did they have to get subway sandwiches?
the wings were okay...
fruit bowl was better thou (pineapple too sour)

now the free softwares...
i accquired 6 sets...

here's how to do it. 1, register your name at the far right, get your loot, give it to your friend, go to middle of the table and register again get free stuff give to friend, then go to the far left and register and get free stuff. that's 3 sets right there.
after the event starts, that's when you notice that they have EXTRAS bags... go out and ask politely if you can have an extra one / OR just pretend you just show up. (works best with a friend, and he can do the same thing to get more. don't be nervous, it's easy and they won't recognize you with that many people at the line in the beginning)

here's the rep that i approached and the line i used
1. a tall clean cut white guy - "got any extra bags?" (gave me an extra bag without any problem! thanks dude)
2. an arabic guy - "can i get an extra bag for my friend?" (says "no, unless you're a TA or Professor) damn warez nazi.
3. a short "too much makeup" girl - "got any extras i can have?" (says "did you ask heidi?") who the @#%% is heidi?

so the best tactic is just to keep re registering in the beginning!

later noticed an older guy approached them and saying he's a CSC professor... walked off with 2 full boxes!!! (that's 50 per box!)
actually, they even send 2 guys to help him carry the boxes away.

<< Hey i just attended the VS.net program in Atlanta. It is exatly what the other say it is... good for the WindowsXP Pro(i got 2 in the bag by mistake i guess) and VS.net.

and again there is the awesome food.

although the music was alright it was tooo too loud...
>>

I was at the Atlanta one too. I sat in the back, but couldn't hear the presentation real well because of all the people standing up in the back of the room wouldn't be quiet. I ended up leaving early. Hope they didn't call my number at the raffle!!!

you can't register more than once in the nyc event because they had a check list and you have to be in the line that contains the first letter of your last name.

at george mason it was very easy to register several times because the capacity was smaller so everyone can basically go to any rep and get registered again and again...

people were doing that i believe.... i only noticed one person..since it is hard to remember everyone's face.

i got extras too.... but at the end if you weren't a TA or Prof, it'd be hard to get extras...

funny part was at the end, some nice black guy was sitting at the table... and were handing them out to people while saying "er, i don't work here" the .net rep weren't paying attention until there was a crowd forming at the other end of the table....
he put a stop to that...moved all the boxes to where he's sitting... ( i believe he was the arabic no warez for you nazi mentioned above)
