<< Can anyone tell me if they are checking ID's at this event? >>

You have to show them your ID when you check-in. They won't let you in or give you your bag of goodies until they have scrutinized the ID for the proper university affiliation.

By the way, I just noticed that the title of this thread still says "free copies of VS.net, Office XP", when actually they are giving out Windows XP.

Was there any sort of "standby" line for those that didnt register or did you pretty much have to register?

I attended DeVry up until a little while ago. My ID has expired, but the only indication of that is a sticker on the back of the ID. I guess what I'm asking is how close do they look at your ID?

I used my valid student ID, but they really didn't check it hard or anything. Some (most) of the people working the check-in tables were either students at Wayne State, or they were temps from a temp agency like Manpower (I forget the name the girl told me, any ideas, I have heard it before)

My guess is they could really care less, she was cool about hooking my friend and I up with extra bags. When I went outside for a smoke and came back in I talked with her again for a few and she asked me what the event was for, if that tells you anything. I could have gone for multi-table check-in, but didn't want to risk it because I was already told to come back near the end for my extras. I mean come on guys, how many copies of XP do you REALLY need?? I mean sure finally I have a legal copy, but whatever. I suggest to go for 2, maybe 3 bags, don't be greedy.

If you DO happen to get more than that and wanna get rid of your Tshirt tablet (haha) cause it is too small or whatever, lemme know, I want a few more of those shirts. Heck I might even trade a copy of XP or my copies of .NET, but your not getting my spiderballs

On another note, does anyone remember the website they gave at the end so you could download the code that they showed at the event?? I think I might have found it but I'm not sure yet, gotta grab it later. OH yeah....and when the first speaker (forgot his name already, the guy with the beard) said something like "...earlier I was outside talking with some people about security issues blah blah blah..", he was talking about my friend and I. That guy is cool as h*ll, straight from Redmond, has 3 college degrees...one from UCLA, one from Boulder Colorado (might be somewhere else in CO), and I forget the last one.

<< I went to the Detroit one last night...it was shorter than I expected. There sure was an abundance of spiderballs. If anyone was there, I was with the guy who yelled out "Where's the zip?" like 3 times. Someone actually followed us after we left onto the freeway, made a sign that said "Where's the zip?" and drove next to us and held it up in the window. Awesome stuff. (Embarassing friend though) >>

oh yeah, well I was the guy who sat in the front row that heckled that dude (stephen "the cy" borg) my friend however gave him a quality bogus zip code (66606 - topeka, kansas) anyways i signed in at all the desks and got extra bags. the cute little cheerleader girl gave me so many spiderball i dont know what to do with em!!

Anyone going to the one held in Cambridge, MA tomorrow? If so, you know if there's parking space near there?

I'm going to Cambridge tomorrow, can't wait! Anyhow, there's a parking garage right at the hotel (gotta pay to park but it's better than trying to work your way through cambridge and get lost trying to park).

DePaul's first day of their spring quarter is April 1st, and parking is never easy around that neighborhood, so I would guess that it would be kinda rough. There is a parking lot where you can pay to park, but it might fill quickly, as it is used for Blockbuster parking also. But who knows maybe DePaul has added another lot in the couple years since I have gone to school there (I think they've added one on Sheffield, but I can't remember. Call ahead to ask

Be careful not to park in a permit-only parking lot, they patrol those lots rather frequently and $115 isn't worth risking. Also most of the neighborhood street parking around there is permit parking at night (except on the major streets, Fullerton, Sheffield, etc). If your late, and worse comes to worse, park as close as you can and take a cab.

*** Glad I checked their website after I hit reply...

Clifton Parking Deck, 2330 N. Clifton. Fees are $4.00 before 4:00 p.m. and $2.00 after 4:00 p.m.

Sheffield Parking facility, 2335 North Sheffield. Fees are $4.00 before 4:00 p.m. and $2.00 after 4:00 p.m.

I went to the SJSU one tonight. The software was good, the food was crap and there were no spider balls. I didn't stay until the raffle and I had a hell of a time giving away my raffle ticket. No one would take it. For all you old farts like me who are wondering about how close they check ids, I used my 14 year out of date college id and they didn't bat an eye. Judging by more than a few participants, I wasn't the only one. So if you signed up but weren't going to go because of the school id thing, I say do it anyways.

The funny thing was that at first I stood in the wrong line. There was this really long line so I figured that it was the free software line. But then I noticed that there were too many girls and not enough geeks. It turns out it was the line to get into the "No Doubt" concert.

Free Sofware makes BILL GATES MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just got back from sjsu and also almost stood in the no doubt line. as i was walking to the back of the line, i too noticed that this didn't look like a group of people who would attend the vs event.

btw, they gave away the spider balls and folding frisbees during the demo and also at the end.

EDIT:

as for the ids, the lady that checked mine didn't really look at it much, but my friend had his checked closely. i guess it depends on which line you stood in.

<< Heh... I came back with 32 spider balls and 4 frisbees. >>

bastard! hehehe, naah the food was really crappy though! what kind of food DO they serve at SJSU anyways/! yuck! glad i didn't spend my 4 years there.. heheh go UCD!

well the band was good, i really liked it cuz the lead singer was really trying to surge up the crowd.. the demo was really cool and everyone saw the true power of .net.. while getting hit by spider balls thrown by the key-note speaker.. dang there was times that at least one of us had to look up to cover each other cuz there was soo much things getting thrown at the crowd..

the raffle was suck.. seems like probably 50% of the raffles that were called weren't present.. and to end it all, 1 of the two xboxs was ALMOST given away to a professor at SJSU! dang wasn't that gonna be suck! it turns out the two xbox winners were lets just say, older than most of the crowd...

back to the spider balls.. man a lot of people just stole as much as they can.. the food wasn't good.. band rocked.. .net rocked.. cool free software rocked..., no doubt concert at the same time as the demo leaving us with no seats sucked..,

i think im done now hehhe
