Excellent, I am glad Microsoft is taking actions to ensure these events are hitting their target audience. Now we won't see Joe Sixpack bringing his whole family so he can make a killing on ebay.

Hey, thanks, I love these MS giveaways. I'll be there in Seattle. I think I could just get this stuff free anyway through the CSE dept. at UW, but that will take longer, and I've got plenty of friends who need a legit copy of WinXP.

<< Does anyone know if you can leave these things early?

Sorry dude, but all the MS launch events I have been to they always hold off giving away the free stuff till after, though they do the giveaways during. I am brining my math homework with me so that the 3.5 hours won't be wasted

>>

Nuts,....I dunno if I wanna sit there for the whole 3.5 hours. After a full day of work on Wednesday (the day of my event), I just wanna go home, eat some dinner and watch T'Pol on Enterprise....

I signed up for the San Jose event and got this in my email:

Remember, every event attendee will receive a full version of Visual
Studio .NET Academic, plus a chance to win* one of several great prizes
which could include a Microsoft XboxT, Microsoft Press® Books, $500
American Express Gift Certificates, MP3 Players, and more.

It might vary based on what location you signed for.

Does anyone know if you can leave these things early? The event is scheduled for 6:30pm-10:00pm. It would suck if they only gave out those things at the end. Also, I don't know if its worth going to just to receive Visual Studio and not XP Pro.

I signed up for the Maryland event -- does this mean that people who go to the Maryland event don't get WinXP Pro? <sniff> <sniff>

<< My e-mail confirmation didn't say anything about getting WinXP Pro, but when I e-mailed the Microsoft department responsible for this event, they responded that I would indeed be receiving Win XP.

So even if your e-mail didn't explicitly state you will receive XP, I'm pretty sure you will.
>>

I hope you're right.

I don't suppose anyone signed up for the NYC event and can't make it...I came in to this thread a few days ago, but not fast enough I guess. It's at a perfect time for me too...right on a day without school. That's it, I'm setting AT Hot Deals as my default home page. :|

I got in on the Fullerton one, but either didn't get the confirmation email or I accidentely deleted it while cleaning out the 70+ pieces of spam I recieve every day. Is there any way I can resend it? Is there anything on the confirmation email I will need to get in, because it's full now and I can't sign up again, and I really don't want to miss out on this.

i just got an email from microsoft:

"We have been receiving a lot of questions in reference to who may attend these events. The campus launch events are specifically tailored for the academic community. You must be a staff member, faculty member or student from an academic institution with a valid school ID to attend these events. (Events are open to both high school and college students from neighboring schools.)"

i don't remember this being a requirement when i signed up.

It is just for students, after all it is for the release for VS.NET Academic, so it would only make sense that students can get in....

So, is there anything on the email that I'll need to get in, or do to make sure I'm still on the list, or am I screwed?

Helenihi,

In my confirmation email it's all general information like date, location and information you can find from their website. I guess all you need to bring to the event is your student ID.
