The lady giving away the prizes told all the wait list people to not bother waiting and just go home because there was not enough room for them. That's nice, since after all the registered people got in, the security guard let all of us wait listed people in and we got raffle tickets and free stuff and everything. So I missed the band, no big deal.

I have been reading that the Visual Studio .NET Academic is actually a BEEFED up version of this suite. The academic has ALL the features of the Professional version along with a bunch of academic tools. The license might be different than the Professional version, I haven't checked that out yet. I used to write my programs in VB6 Academic and then take them to school to make them .exe

This giveaway is looking better and better. I guess Microsoft REALLY wants us to drink the Kool-Aid. Hey maybe thats why the punch at UCLA tasted so bad, it was Microsoft Kool-Aid!

<< I just tried it right now... the exe's can be run as stand alone programs. yay! >>

Are you serious?? If so, that's awesome! Can anyone else verify this (not to say you're not trustworthy, fongboy...just wanna make sure)? With the academic version, can I write the program, compile it as a stand-alone and run it on another computer just like if it was compiled under a retail licensed version? And did you notice any little disclaimer in the compiled program that says something like "Compiled with VisualStudio.Net Academic - NOT FOR COMMERCIAL SELLING"?

Our speaker told us that the Academice versoion of .NET is the exact same as the prpfessional version. It has some items in it that makes it easeier for students and teachers to work with it though. Like a Code Extraction Tool, an Assignment Manger Tool and Assignemt Publishing tools.

overall i love microsoft.

I have to hand it to M$ - they know what they are doing. Sure this campaign is costing them a few million, but in exchange for their "generosity" they're hooking the programmers of the future on their software (and convincing them what a great company MS is at the same time). Its like crack. The first ones free.......

[sellout] And having said that ill be standing in line with everyone else at the GMU event [/sellout]

You could always utilize the search feature on ebay for completed auctions...

When you sell it on eBay, it basically becomes warez, and therefore the value is probably limited.
Since it is just the CDs, and if you really want to go the illegal route, maybe $20 - $30.

Your Karma will go down the drain, though.

Looks like Microsoft is cracking down... most of the auctions on ebay for visual studio .net have been deleted.

yeah, Microsoft patrols ebay...I tried to sell a legit Office 97 CD there once, but since I didn't have the manual to go with it Microsoft shut me down (they even emailed me telling me they closed my auction).
