Without a time machine, the fact that they used to be $5 doesn't really matter. However, I have the red (crimson) version that i got from staples for $13, so chunkee's purchase and mine does show that this mouse will go on sale for less from time to time. BTW, great mouse.

If it's anything like the previous version then it's definitely a no-go for FPS.

It lags so bad that I can't even use it for day to day work. It is not even worth $5 to be honest.

I had real bad problems with my Intellimouse Explorer and almost got rid of it. But I tried cleaning the optical sensor and it was suddenly like new. You need something really small to get to the sensor in order to wipe it at all. I am postive this is what's wrong with yours. Give it a try and make sure you wipe the optical sensor and not the light.

Does compusa still have that 15% restocking fee? I might consider buying one to try it out : i've been looking for another mouse for sometime.

Strange, but going through the CompUSA website, you get to the Crimson Fire Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer (plus other colors available, including the cobalt blue) for $14.98, in-store pickup (no shipping). I got a couple of these last spring when they were $12.95 at Staples, and I love 'em. The tilt wheel and forward/backward buttons for internet use are real time savers. Mine are very responsive.

Regarding response, I bought one at Staples last year and love it. But once in a while (every couple months), I catch interference from something, because it lags several seconds behind. It usually only lasts a couple minutes. But a coworker bought the same one and wasn't able to use it in her cube because of the interference. No idea what was causing it, though, as I thought they were on a fairly unique frequency.

Nonetheless, I want to replace my Logitech at home with this, so thanks to the OP. Best mouse I've ever used. The side buttons are perfect. Just wish I could load the driver to get the side scrolling, but it overrides the Dell touchpad driver, which I need when I'm mouseless. :-(

Always manually disable the power-management setting in Windows for your USB port that your mouse is plugged into. I find that on some systems, Windows' likes to put the mouse on "standby", and some mice don't react kindly to the sort of treatment. The most often-seen symptom is lag, immediately following a period of not moving the mouse for a little while.

It could also be RF interference from your system/CPU itself, depending on clock frequencies, or perhaps an interrupt issue, if the CPU goes into thermal-throttle-mode, as the mouse data updates will start to get lost, and the mouse will lag in onscreen movement relative to physical movement.
