Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 V2.0 dead?

A month ago I bought this keyboard from Target: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823109175

Today I was using it without any problems, I was playing Battlefield BC2 when I stopped getting key responses, I finished the match and exited out of the game. I changed the battery's but no luck, I restarted my computer and the system stopped at the boot screen saying no keyboard. So I removed the USB adapter and it was hot, so hot I couldn't hold on it to. I'm pretty sure it over heated the USB adapter. I've tried other USB ports and had no luck, I've tried my wife's laptop as well, no luck. Has anyone had an experience like this before?

Link you provided says the keyboard has a one year warranty. Just return it to Target and exchange for another or try for a refund.

I don't know the model number of mine but I have a MS natural (split) wireless that I use for business and it routinely stops picking up keystrokes all the while the mouse works fine. Mine doesn't use a USB dongle though it has a oval shaped sensor that plugs into the USB ports.

I lost my receipt and Target won't accept the return but I went and bought another one today. I tried to plug the new adapter into the USB and use it with the old keyboard but had no luck. I tried the old adapter with the new keyboard and still no luck. I'm assuming the keyboard and adapter are paired together by a special frequency or something? I really like this keyboard and I just hope its a one time thing.

Yep same frequency, only ones I've seen that aren't are some of the new Logitech's that have a unified system where you can swap out some mice/keyboards with the same adapter.

Thanks, I was going to just use the new adapter and put he old one in the new box and take it back since I have the receipt but the model numbers don't match up. I guess I'll contact MS and see if I can RMA it.

Email MS and they will just send you a whole new set. You usually don't even have to send the old one in.

Its a USB hub that sits on my desk and i've been using it for almost 2 years and haven't had any issues with anything else plugged into it. I've had my mouse adapter plugged in since day one with no problems, my iPhone USB cable and a gaming controller are all plugged in 24/7.
