Microsoft Warns Windows 7 Is Dangerous To Use
Do you use Windows 7? Microsoft says you are placing yourself in danger…

In a new post on the official Microsoft Newsroom, the company has warned Windows 7 users the ageing platform suffers from a number of serious failings including security deficiencies and hardware restrictions while reiterating all support for the platform is ending. It’s scary stuff.

“Today, [Windows 7] does not meet the requirements of modern technology, nor the high security requirements of IT departments,” says Markus Nitschke, Head of Windows at Microsoft Germany.

The Microsoft post (originally written in German) goes into more detail actively attacking Windows 7 for its "long-outdated security architectures" and warning any users and businesses who are running that they are more susceptible to cyber attacks.

Not only did MS scrub the German page, OCN's mod locked the discussion on the claim that it needed to be because the original source is gone — even though the article was obviously documented by Forbes and someone posted an archive of the original page on the first page of the topic. Damage control in progress? I guess they haven't managed to get to Forbes yet. LOL.

Here is the German page, archived: https://archive.is/dE3hF

Security support for Windows 7 doesn't end until 2020, Microsoft may as well be telling us all that they have no intentions of keeping any of their products secure.

Well Windows 7 is now almost eight years old now. It is not surprising that Microsoft is slowly dropping support for it in favor of Win10. In all seriously, all of you guys who don't want to upgrade to Win10, move over to Linux. Which is a better OS anyway.

I believe that Win7 still has greater web market-share than Win10. Obviously, this is yet another FUD campaign designed to change that.

I'm still of the firm belief that MS will extend the EOL deadline for Win7, just like they did for XP, should it remain the majority Windows' OS by market-share.

Hello everyone.. Win7 user here (I had Win10 installed for a week and went 'back').
About Win10 is more secure than Win7.. of course it is.. but how much is 'more'? I mean, every month there's quite an amount of security/whatever updates for Win10.. some were updates which update updates. Some will say, security is never-ending story, because one can't predict what technique someone might 'invent' to cause damage. Yes, is true...
Now.. in regard of security, what's the difference between Win7 and Win10?..Forget updates, because new updates will be 'needed' soon anyway. Reality is, Win7 and Win10, (pure OS -forget desktop gimmicks and stuff) are VERY similar -very vulnerable, that is.
Of course, user want certain 'freedom' in usability (modifying/replacing content of system folders, modifying registry, etc.). And the way Win works.. everyone 'from outside' can do the same. Example: you install software and uninstall it later... who cares what has been left behind. That decision is up to software maker... OS has no control over that -simplified, but true. Geez!
I think it's time for MS to make NEW OS.. MS should quit sticking with old OS ideas made 15-20 years ago.
Just my 2c.

I can understand why it was scrubbed. Its not a great idea to bash your biggest competitor when they happen to be made by the same company. I doubt companies are keen to hear the weird implication that products they bought into are being neglected during the agreed upon support period. Whether that is true or not, his statements can certainly be read that way. It seems like some one in marketing got a little to excited.

The push for ten makes for a great conspiracy if you ask me.
Which part?

The part where people found that the entire installation was downloaded and/or installed by Windows Update automatically? Or, one of the various other parts?

Microsoft's behavior shows a pattern of doing things that are not in the interests of its users with Windows 10, stripping away their control over the OS piece by piece.

Have been pretty much doing this myself for a long time now, if everyone wants to retain old OS is their prob IMHO.

It might be time to stop using antivirus

I use a few other add ons.

I was going to post a query-thread at the HTPC forum. I've still got my HTPC running under Win7 for Media Center. Suddenly, every time I raise up the channel-listing, WMC throws up a notice about "need to update the guide." then it says "guide has been updated." And if I go to the channel-listing again, even within 30 seconds? the same cycle, and more green-button remote-clicks.

MS is just becoming a travesty. On the one hand, clean installs of Win 10 on even the most recent motherboards will throw up errors in the Event Logs that remain a mystery to the most tech-obsessive trouble-shooting fanatics among us. On the other hand, they don't want to continue support for a still-popular OS-version.

I'm not giving up Windows 7 completely until I can get encrypted cable channels using an alternative to WMC in Windows 10.

As for "security" and "protection" . . . I had my Windows 10 configured to use the Defender, which is SUPPOSED TO BE better protection than MSE had been with Windows 7 -- it's SUPPOSED TO BE AD-E-QUATE!! I finally got around to adding my KIS 2017 Kaspersky license to the Windows 10 installation of the same system.

It "found" an infection that Defender missed. And we're supposed to swallow MS's claptrap about "Windows 7 Danger" as we deal with all these shortcomings of Windows 10? I just may give Linux a go. M***** F*****s!! Bill Gates and the old crew wouldn't have put this on us. Dovetailing with the P&N forums, you know civilization is starting to collapse when M$ starts pushing its own bubble of alternative facts.

They just don't want to continue the support that they promised. They don't listen to us; then they claim the "alternative fact" that we're all moving to Windows 10 out of love and enthusiasm.

I have the same problem with WMC guide updates on my HTPC, I rarely use my tuner though except to watch football sometimes so I've just ignored it. It used to work fine though.

Too bad, or you'd have a better idea as to when it began to occur, which would be of interest . . to me . . ..

I expressly set up my last two systems as dual-boot so I could navigate into a new regime that continues DVR functions and allows me to continue use of my HD Homerun-Prime's (hereafter -- HDHR' plural: HDHR'-'s). If I restart my subscription to Netflix and add Hutu and others -- I want an integrated solution with selection menus. And until subscription Cable-TV with Premium content is a thing of the past, I want to go forward with what took me on and off a couple years to achieve through experiment, different tuners, different connections to STB, OTA, etc.

I think I'll post over in HTPC forum and see if I can still "buy" WMC for Win 8.1 and install it to Win 10. My other option would be to make a dual-boot a triple-boot and add Win 8.1.

Just to voice my frustration -- I hate all this . . . It's almost as bad as watching Orwell's Old Major and Napoleon appear on TV every day [code-words -- otherwise we go to P&N to speak of He Who Has No Name and side-kick Darth Vadar] . . . Oh-my-gawd! And I want TV through Windows?!

And then the EOL cycle gets even shorter for 10. This upgrade or else BS is older than a cocker spaniel at XP's launch.

FWIW, that is saying that a specific build of Windows 10 is EOL. Microsoft has always said that for support you must be up to date. The outrage over stuff like this is just people being uninformed.

* Support for Windows 7 RTM without service packs ended on April 9, 2013. Be sure to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 today to continue to receive support and updates.
