I'm struggling to find a reason to move to 2.5gbe, let alone 10gbe... and my latest system build at least has 2.5gbe on the motherboard. My problem is everything else... NAS boxes, security cameras, other PCs... all 1gbe, so what is my urgent need to upgrade? I have to Linux PC Servers that... maybe... I could upgrade to 2.5gbe, but the motherboards are pretty ancient.

I'd be happy to get port bonding working, both of the larger PX4 Lenovo units I have have two 1 GBe ports and support channel bonding.

OTOH you can't really say what some changes are like until they are installed and working.

Prosumer NAS are now coming with >=2.5 (qnap, synology, wd for example).

I don't know that there's a great reason to go above 1G for home networks unless you have a home office and do CAD/digital art/etc and store work files on a NAS. Then, 2.5Gbe seems like a mistake because 10Gbe is barely any more money. A single modern SSD can saturate 2.5Gbe so 10Gbe seems obvious for this role.

Cost isn't in the NAS or PC, its the switch and power to run the higher speed.
