Mid Life Crisis?

Nothing makes me happy and I think it is because i have seen it all. I really think I hit some inflection point where nothing will be grand to me ever again.

Don't want a nice car. Material goods don't matter to me. Money doesn't matter to me (never has). Ponder things like .... why do educated people not enjoy their money and teach their kids to have good jobs so that they can make alot of money to never spend. Why make money?

The happiest people I have encountered/know are poor or atelast below middle class.

I got my first kid two years ago when I was 39. A wonderful daughter full of energy and curiosity. Changed my life completely (in a very good way).

Find things you enjoy and do those things. You can't say you've seen it all, you haven't. Seems like you've figured out what material goods and money means to you. That's not all there is to life!

People do tend to get caught up in the pursuit of money, and that can definitely take its toll. Since material items and money aren't important to you, maybe find a new hobby. Make new friends. Set a goal to work towards, build or create something. Learn a new skill. Learning stuff can be a lot of fun actually.

I just took my kids to a trunk or treat and carnival at the local church. Seeing my kid happy with his friends and classmates and comparing baskets, talking to other nice parents... It was surreal how happy the atmosphere was.

On the weekends when i go mtn biking and I look down upon the world from the top, i take a huge breath and think life is great

While in other parts of the world people are fighting for their freedom trying to not get their heads chopped off.

You should feel guilty for being sad about 1st world problems...lol life is too short

I don't really want money, I just want enough so that I can live off the investments and do whatever the hell I want, even if it's a field with low job prospects or low pay... Hopefully, I will be there in 5 years.

P.S. F*** grand. I appreciate the opportunity to sit on my ass in front of a computer getting wasted on a regular basis.

serious question ... have you ever traveled?

traveling is probably what makes me the happiest in life. first time i went out of the country was 23 years old. i don't have much regrets in life, but the #1 regret is that i wish i started traveling when i was younger than 23. my wife and i make it a priority to do so.

we just got our first house 2 years ago and we love it. i built my home theater in my basement, couldn't be better. we just re-did our backyard with a huge renovation and now have a new patio out there. we have the nicest kitchen we could ask for. everything about our home we love. material things are nice, but they simply cannot compare to traveling and seeing the world.

we're pregnant with our first kid, and everyone we know is telling us "say good bye to your carribean trips". but you know what? everyone was saying that when we first got married too and how things would change. but we made it a priority to do it, and we continue to do so. once we have a kid, we plan to keep having our fun, but we'll begin a new type of fun as well. but we will never give up our traveling.

When you're on your death bed you aren't going to think about the extra hours you spent in the office, the car you drove, or the money you made. Your thoughts are going to be on your loved ones, and the experiences you've had in life. I'm not discounting money and work. They are important, but not as important as your family and life experiences.

I agree with purbeast0. Traveling is awesome. I'm not talking about traveling in America, although that's great as well. I'm talking about traveling to another part of the world. To get out of your comfort zone. To meet people who speak a different language, and who live much differently than you. Once you do this, you tend to view the world differently. Sadly, I've met many people who never have the opportunity to travel. Most people that I've talked to only have been to Las Vegas or Florida.

I've met wealthy people who never go anywhere. I know an older couple who have money, and a summer business. They could easily get away for a few months in the winter, but they never do it.

Along with spending time with the people that love you, make some time to give back.

Money helps charities but there's really nothing like getting out there and finding something to help others and actually doing it. The little moments of gratitude will let you know you are making impactful differences in other people's lives. Nothing like it

Start doing long distance running; that is the only thing that keeps me from being depressed (you sound depressed).

PS travelling and kids and pets suck

Do you still hate your job, 2004?
Or did you find a job you like?

You haven't seen close to it all.

Educated people love money.
They spend it on all sorts of things to make their lives easier.

Who ever said money is everything?
Don't you have hobbies and passions outside of work?

You need to be more specific.
What are you upset over?

Are you working too many hours?
Then fix that.

Are you bored?
Maybe you need to pick up a new hobby that requires effort and training.

Are you lonely?
Married? Single? Go get what you want.

You mentioned nothing but money. Try finding something other than money to make you happy like s hobby.

Also, you have not seen it all.

Travel and explore the world. I totally agree with you about people's tendencies to work, work, work and spending money on crap instead of experiences.

PS travelling and kids and pets suck

Don't listen to this guy.

Get in fights with an imaginary version of yourself.

Fight other people.

Start a club.

or just join a dojo. I did two years ago and it helped snap a funk. I do Taichi chuan daily and in much better shape. I also box two nights a week so I get the soft and the hard
